A sister for Claire

Hello. I'm new here ... hope you won't mind me asking for opinions right off the bat. Our second baby girl is due in six weeks and DH and I just can't settle on a name. DD's name is Claire Jeanette -- Claire because I'd always loved it; Jeanette after DH's grandmother who had passed away while I was pregnant. Here's where we're at with naming this baby.

So far, DH's picks are:
Taylor
Hannah
Emily
They are all fine names but a little too common for me ... and a first cousin already has a Hannah.

My current top choices are:
Hallie
Julia
Leah
Laney
Melanie

Which of these names goes best with Claire? Or is there something you would suggest that we haven't thought of? I should add that Grace would've been on my list but it's the name of another cousin's 1-year-old dd. I love it for a middle name.

I appreciate your help!

I love Claire!

Here are my thoughts on the names on your lists:

Taylor - this was a really trendy name that's on it's way out. It's cute, but I don't think it goes with Claire very well.
Hannah -- I like this one and it goes well with Claire, but it's very popular and if you see this cousin with any frequency, it could get confusing.
Emily -- This is a beautiful name, but it is INCREDIBLY popular. It's been number one for nine years with no sign of slowing down. And now Emma is number two, so it's almost doubly popular. Emily is the Jennifer of this generation.
Hallie -- I LOVE Halle, but prefer this spelling. I think it looks more classic and less cute, better for an adult. This is definitely a great option.
Julia -- My favorite from you list. I love Julia. It's timeless and classic and goes perfectly with Claire.
Leah -- I just don't love this name. It's okay. It's definitely the same category as Claire, so they go together well.
Laney -- A cute nickname, but not ideal for a grown woman. Also, I don't think it's as classic/timeless as Claire.
Melanie -- This name is just ok to me. Also it seems sort of dated since I know a number of adult Melanies and no children.

Here are a few more names that I think go really well with Claire:

Alexandra, Amelia, Anna, Brooke, Caroline, Catherine/Katherine/Cait/Kate, Charlotte, Chloe, Eleanor,

What about Alannah Grace? It is one of my top names. It sounds great with Claire. If you are into nn's you could call her Anna or Laney.

You have some great names on your list! I really love Julia with Claire. It is definetly my favourite. Hallie and Leah are also beautiful. I love Hannah, but you're right in saying that its getting quite common. Some other names to keep in mind that I think go nicely with Claire are...
Mallory
Sienna
Loralei (nn Rory?)
Samantha nn Sammie --> Claire and Sammie sound really cute to me
Eliana
Nora
Abigail nn Abby (although, like Hannah and Emily, getting very popular)
Nicole nn Nicky
Ainsley
Alyssa

My faves
#1) Claire Jeanette and Julia Grace
#2) Claire Jeanette and Samantha Grace
#3) Claire Jeanette and Alyssa Grace

I like Leah best from the lists.

How 'bout Lucy? I know it's shocking at first but it's cute & spunky & goes well w/ Claire.

Great names. From your lists I think Hannah, Leah, Emily or Julia go best with the traditional Claire. But since Hannah is already being used, it's nixed right? ( I probably wouldn't use it either, unless it was a coousin I rarely saw). I think my vote leans toward Leah. The other names are beautiful, but in my opinion have a different style to them. Of all the names on your list, I love Hallie the most.

Taylor
Hannah
Emily
~~~~~~
Hallie** love it
Julia
Leah *** my pick with Claire
Laney
Melanie
Claire is a beautiful name. From the names on your list, I'd chose one of these:
Hannah
Emily
Julia
Melanie
The following are too trendy for Claire's sister, imo:
Taylor
Hallie
Laney
Leah is not trendy, but for some reason the sound of it has always grated on me!
My vote is Julia. Wish I could use it myself. I also like the idea of reviving Melanie. It hasn't been used much in the past 25-30 yrs. I think it's a classic like Julia.
Here are my thoughts:
Claire is more of a traditional/classic, older name. While it's not necessary to have a name exactly with those traits, the one on your lists that I feel is way too far off the style is Taylor.
So far, DH's picks are:
Taylor - unisex, too different in style from Claire
Hannah - would be perfect if not for the cousin
Emily - would be perfect style match but far too popular, top 10 for 10 years, top 1-3 past five years
My current top choices are:
Hallie - not bad. I like the Halle spelling like Halle Berry better, I also like Hailey or Hayley better, but it has also gotten very popular
Julia - good style match with Claire, but to me tooo old-fashioned
Leah - very nice style match with Claire
Laney - love the name Delaney, Laney could be nn. Delaney is newer, trendier, but classy-enough sounding to pair with the classic Claire
Melanie - would match up fine with Claire
here are other traditional/classic types I think could match with Claire: Chloe (this has made a trendy comeback though), Cara, Corinne (if you would consider other Cs); Diana, Elise, Gina, Kara, Molly, Megan (this is almost a classic now), Moira, Nina, Natalie, Naomi, Olivia, Phoebe, Sophia
here are others which are not really traditional/classic, but not so far of the style to be considered trendy and/or overly popular: Aubrey, Allison (Allie), Brenna, Dannah (maybe a bit too close to Hannah), Erin, Erica, Heidi, Janna, Johanna, Kelsey, Mallory, Rayna, Tara, Whitney, Zoe
good luck
