Skeptical about name

So I am not a big Star Wars fan. I like the movies okay, but by far I am not obsessed. When I watched the Star Wars movies, I heard the name Anakin and instantly fell in love with it. I am due in June and if we have a boy, I plan to name him Anikin William. I spelled it a little different, but I love the way that it sounds. I am worried though that some people will make fun. I mean, by the time he starts school in 5 years, Star Wars wont be as popular I think. Now that there are no more movies coming out I think whats left of the Mania will end. Advise please, and please be kind!

I had this name on my list....but for a girl and spelled Annakyn. When I saw the name I didn't relate it to Star Wars because I've never seen it or been the least bit interested in it. However, many people on this board clued me in to where they've heard it, lol. I still do like it but I like others more. I'd use it though regardless of what others may think. I do see it as a girl's name because of the 'anna' sound at the beginning. If you like it for a boy.....then go for it!

I really wouldn't worry about the connection to Star Wars. I am naming my DD Scarlett and am fully aware that she will forever be tied to Gone With the Wind. I just hope by the time she's 5 I have some witty comebacks to the "Frankly my dears....". You might want to start working on your Star Wars comebacks as well!

I think if you're skeptical you should stay far, far away. I think naming a child Anakin, especially spelling it incorrectly is a terrible idea. What would you think of naming a child Artudeetu, or Seethreepeeoh? It will always have the Star Wars connotation.

My name being Terra is also from Gone With the Wind and sometimes now people do relate the two. It doesn't bother me any.

You know I dont see it at all that I am spelling it wrong. Its a name. People do all screwy things with names. The way that I see it, there isnt a wrong way to spell a name. My brother in law is spelled Jerimy. I think that is... different, but by far not wrong. As long as its pronouncable (SP) thats all that matters. On the other hand, I have been doing more investigating since I posted my original message and there are a lot of people that are naming there kids Anakin these days. And now that I feel more confident, I guess that I really shouldnt care about what other people think as long as I like it. I guess all I needed is a few people not to like to name and for me to get defensive so I could realize that I didnt care if they liked it or not. Thank you for helping me realize that!

I really like Anakin, but for some reason I like it more for a girl.

I don't think Anakin can be compared to Luke or Scarlett. Those are names that pre-date their famous use in a book or film. Luke is biblical, you don't get much older or more established than that! Anakin, regardless of spelling, is a creation of Star Wars and will always be known as such. I'd feel very very sorry for a child with that name.
