I am due in two days, with our third girl.
My husband and I, by some grace of god (and the help of this board) were able to decide on a name a couple of months ago.
Our second girl took over 2 months to name and a year to get used to the name we gave her. This name came after LONG discussions and more than one argument.
when we decided on Vivian for this third daughter, it was really close to amazing. I started crying from happiness, relief and probably lots of hormones. It encompassed everything we wanted in a name: strong but feminine possibility for a nickname (love viv and vivi), family connection (although distant), and importantly- familiar but still somewhat rare.
I was so shocked today to find out that Jolie-Pitts named their daughter Vivienne.
it is not so much that my daughter would have name close to it, but what I thought was a fairly uncommon name is sure to become MUCH more popular. This is not a shiloh or suri. People are going to use this I hate that. My other daughters names are Ellery and Evie (nn for Avelyn).
Should we use the name my husband and I love? Or go back to the drawing board and risk another child being called just "baby" for a couple of months?

I would just stick with what you chose. For one, like you said it took you awhile to decide on a name. Plus, you decided well before she gave birth to her daughter.

I don't think it's a big deal to use a name that a celebrity has used. If it were something almost completely unheard-of, like Suri or Apple or Pilot Inspektor, then it seems derivative. If it's simply something not commonly used, like Hazel or Moses or Violet or Vivienne, I don't think it's as apt to trigger a sudden trendiness for that name. (Of course, I don't really think classics become trendy, because they're not coming out of the clear blue sky--they just have a resurgence of popularity.)
I wouldn't worry about it. Really. It's not out of step with current trends (I'm thinking things like Isabella, here,) but I don't think it's going to take off like a rocket. I think (although I find it lovely) that you're going to hear "that's dated" a lot about this one for several years to come.

OMG I came here to post the same thing! I am so mad at Angelina right now! My husband and I are expecting in Dec., and the only name we love right now is Vivian. I posted about it here not that long ago, and we just loved it.
Now Angelina named her daughter Vivienne...and people are going to think that's why we chose that name! I really hope it doesn't become too popular now.
I'm MAD!
I haven't had time to figure out what to do yet. Maybe I'll still use it and be like, "Whatever, Angelina." But maybe we'll go back to the drawing board and see if we can come up with something that goes well with our last name, is feminine, classic, and not the name of some celeb baby! ARG!
Best wishes to you, dear. I think if you meet your daughter and she looks like a Vivian, you should name her that. But if not, maybe she'll look like an Ellery or something else.
I wouldn't let Brangelina keep you from a name you love. And Vivian is very pretty. I've suggested to friends recently when they were looking for a V girl name.
Honestly, if I have any associations with the name, it's Julia Robert's character in Pretty Woman. Love that movie! lol
Personally - I would stick to the name.
