Some I've seen recently (all girls):
Aletha
Beatrice
Marlo
Miriam
Charmaine

And while I'm posting it seems the classics (Isabelle, Katherine, Grace, Caroline, etc.)are in full swing, so how come no one is talking about Laura?

My name is Laura and I have never in all my 28 years had a problem with having another Laura in class or whatever. It was only when I started my job as a nurse that there is another Laura on the night shift...I work days, so it's not confusing. I happen to like my name and it's not very common, but not unheard of. I prefer this spelling to Lara (which I tend to pronounce with a long A).

My good friend from college is Laura, and she's really the only one I know. I would have thought there'd be a lot more thanks to Little House on the Prairie. But, I'm surprised to not see it on more lists on this site since all the classics are making a major comeback.

i've known Laura's, maybe is regional? i've known a few Laura's my age (i'm 27), i've known a Lara, she says it Lair-rah, like Sarah; i've known Lori's, Laurie's, Lorraine's, Laurine, Laurel, Lauren, Lauretta, Lorretta... of all ages. that may be the reason, so many variants of Laura. either way, they are great names!

yeah i'm surprised Little House didnt bring a rise for Laura, or Mary (especially Mary, she was the gorgeous one, wasn't she?), or even Carrie. but all them, is just a few for the Gen X'ers. maybe our parents were more independently thinking back then? lol for whatever reason, Jennifer, Michelle, Stephanie were the popular baby girl names.
