Ok guys I need some ideas! I never really thought I liked the old fashioned type names..but I live in Texas, and totally have the "texas pride" and I was talking about southern names w/ friends and have realized that I would love a southern name for my next baby!
Anyways, most of the obvious names I hate and I don't like names too popular. My dh loves Grace for a girl...but its too popular. Lately the name Savannah Grace has been growing on me for a girl...but who knows. So I need ideas on boy and girl names.
Can't wait to hear y'alls ideas!

I like southern names too!

Of course, there are place names:
Savannah
Georgia
Virginia
Caroline

Others:
Susannah/ Susanne
Scarlett
Alice
Ivy
Janelle
Louisa
Melanie
Opal
Patricia

Also, any double-names are usually considered southern.

Oh yeah, I forgot about boys!! Overall, I think southern boys' names are more traditional, a lot of surnames used for first names.

What about:
Henry (opt. nn Hank)
Cole
Duncan
Jackson
Austin
Davis
Benjamin
Lucas
Garrett
Shane
Brendan

Also, I think Biblical names are very southern: Elijah, Micah, Jacob, Abraham, Solomon, Timothy, Paul, etc. are a few that I like.

Good luck!

everyone has good names...but nothing has just jumped out at me. I'm just too picky! Alot of the names (ecspecially the boy names) are too hillbilly and I definitly dont want that! Maybe I should just stick to a southern name if I have a girl and if I have a boy I shouldnt worry about that too much.

Haven't read the PPs so these are probably repeats, but I love Scarlett for a girl and Beau for a boy. Grace is nice, but way overdone and Savannah is so trendy. A nice double name is sweet too....

Sarah Mae
Anna Cate
Cora Beth
Ada Mae

I find Megan to have a bit of a Southern feel to it, not sure why. For a boy, Austin, Carson, Jeremiah, Jebediah, Davis, Calder/Calman all have that feel.

Hi! I am from Texas but I have lived in Mass half my life. When I first found out I was pregnant my mom and I had to discuss names. We were both so excited and she was sure I was having a girl. We never decided on a boys name (Which I am having) but for a girl the name that was loved by all in Texas was Ainsley. I however loved Carys and was going to name her that if my little one was a girl. My mother got an attitude and demanded that I not name her Carys. When I found out it was a boy I told her "Hubby and I will let you know when he is born." It is not her decision what we name him and I did not need her pressuring me for a name. I had mentioned Liam in the beginning for a name and she still comments periodically that she is in favor of that name. It drives me bonkers. So, I hope this helps in your decision because we are having a hard time here with the same thing. We have narrowed it down to three so far. Our little guy is debuting next month so hopefully we will have one picked out by then. Have a Happy New Year and a wonderful day. Bye

Austin
Tucker
Colton
Reid
Dallas
Aaron
Curtis (Curt)
Jackson
Townes
Connelly

Any surname-name or cowboy-name sounds distinctively Texas to me. Think Colt Mccoy :)
