Suggestions for 2nd DD's Name Please!

Hi Everyone!

I just joined, and need HELP!

I am desperately searching for a name (first and middle) for my second daughter, due in 2 months. We have one daughter already, named Madeline Elise. Our last name is Muhlhausen, and my name is Morgan, so I am trying to stay away from names starting with "M", as I don't want to get into the same initial pattern.

I like these, but not set on any of them:

Sophia Glynn(e) (after my dad Glenn)
Anna Catherine
Fiona Jane

Other FN's: Julianne, Charlotte, Amaris, Giselle, Olivia, Juliette, Alexandra, Bridgette, Shylah

I am open to just about anything and looking for a good complement to Madeline Elise. Oh, and we call Madeline "Maddie" about 75% of the time...so I'd kinda like another name that has a nn that sounds good with Maddie.

Am I picky or what, LOL!

Thanks so much!
Morgan

With big sis Madeline Elise Muhlhausen:

Sophia Glynn(e)- Sophia is beautiful and goes well with Madeline. I do prefer Sophie, but both are nice. I like using family names and honouring someone, but Glynn(e) doesn't have a great sound for a girl and I don't really like it. HOWEVER, if this is the only family name you are considering, it would still get my vote just because any family name is better than just sticking in a random name. I think I prefer Glenna though
Anna Catherine- GORGEOUS, I *love* Anna. Beautiful, classic, and underused. The nn Anna Cate is pretty as well.
Fiona Jane- Love this combo, but Fiona doesn't have the same style that Madeline does.

Julianne- I like this a lot. Seems to go perfectly with Madeline. They are both long, classic names with tons of nn options- Jules, Julie, Anne, Annie, etc. This is my #1 for you
Charlotte- A gorgeous, feminine classic. Love the name, dislike the nn's
Amaris- too out there compared to Madeline
Giselle- beautiful, but not sure if I love it with Madeline
Olivia- pretty, but a bit common now, very popular
Juliette- Like this, although I prefer Julianne, and I do prefer the simpler spelling of Juliet- like this
Alexandra- Nice, and goes well with Madeline, but VERY popular as Alex is so common for both boys and girls, and then there are the new popular Alex- names: Alexis, Alexia, Alexa, etc.
Bridgette- Like Bridget, but dislike this spelling. It is nice, goes well
Shylah- seems completely trendy, dislike it

How about:

Nicola nn Nicky

Danielle/Daniella nn Dani or D(ee)

Karina/Corinne nn Cori

Evelyn nn Evie

Annabel nn Annie/Belle

Belinda nn Bindy

Elizabeth nn Libby

Eleanor nn Nora

welcome! It looks like you are making great progress.

Sophia Glynn - very pretty, matches Madeline well. Are you worried about popularity? If not, and this is a name you love go for it! I liked the earlier suggestion of Glenna.

Anna Catherine - Classic! You can never go wrong with a classic. Also, I love seeing Catherine with a "c."

Fiona Jane - I do like this name, but it does not seem right for you, sorry.

Julianne - another great name! I think this fits well
Charlotte - nice, I am not a big fan of the nn options for this name (Lottie is an exception, but that is way to close to Maddie)
Amaris - too different from Madeline
Giselle - hmm...I like this but I am not sure...
Olivia - pretty (but VERY common in my area) my fav nn for this name is Libby
Juliette - I like Julianne much more, this seems forced
Alexandra - too trendy
Bridgette - nms, I do like that it is french
Shylah - way too trendy with the lovely Madeline

Here are some thoughts: (I went mostly with name that nn do not end in "ie" like Maddie)

Adelaide/Adele/Adelina (NOT Adeline, way too close to Madeline) - nn Ada
Aubrey, nn Bri
Camila/Camille, nn Cami
Claire - no real nn, but matches Madeline
Delilah, nn Lila
Eleanor, nn Ella/Nora
*Felicity, nn Fliss - I like this name for you!
Gabrielle, nn Elle/Bri
Gemma, nn Gem
Geneva, nn Ginny/Eva/Evie
Jocelyn, nn Joce/Josie
Lucille, nn Lucy
Roslyn, nn Ros/Rose
Therese, nn Tess/Tessa

Love Madeline Elise...Of the names you list, I prefer (in order):

Charlotte Jane, nn Lottie
Juliette Glenn, nn Julie
Bridgette Claire, nn Bridg
Julianne Claire, nn Julie
Anna Catherine, nn Annie
Anna Claire, (go by both names)
Sophie Claire, (I like think better than ophia with sis Madeline, both are French)

I left a few of the names you listed off becasue I don't think they are of the same style at Madeline. I would offer you other names, but I think this is an excellent start. Most of the names have a French feel to them, which works very well with sis Madeline Elise. My daughter is named Charlotte, and if several of my friends hadn't beaten me to it, I would be considering Madeleine (the spelling I prefer) for my next one. Good luck!

Hi, Morgan. Congrats on #2!

I love the name Madeline Elise; lets keep up the good work. Here are my thoughts on your current list:

Sophia Glynn(e) (after my dad Glenn)-Sophia is a lovely compliment to Madeline. Maddie & Sophie would be darling for sisters. I'd personally just spell the mn Glenn though to honor your dad; Glynne seems unessecery.

Anna Catherine-Ooh, that's a beautiful classic. Maddie & Annie are great!

Fiona Jane-Ah, that's gorgeous. I don't know about nns here. Maybe Fifi?

Julianne-I like this. It's sort of refreshing. The nn Annie probably works here too.

Charlotte-This is fine. I like Lottie.

Amaris-I don't personally care for this one, but it's at least interesting. It doesn't flow the best w/your ln either.

Giselle-That's different. I like it. Maddie & Gigi or Ellie?

Olivia-I love Olivia. It's awfully popular, but I suppose no more than Madeline is. Livie would be a great nn here.

Juliette-That's very pretty. I like the nn Lettie.

Alexandra-That's fine. I don't love it as much as the others. The nns Allie or Lexie are good.

Bridgette-I love this. Bridgie or Bridie works as nns.

Shylah-Okay, this one just seems made up.

My favorite from your list might be Olivia, but in the interest of not adding another Olivia to the pre-school world, I really like Juliette. It seems perfect w/Madeline, isn't too common, sounds nice w/your ln, & has the cute nn of Lettie.

Here are some more suggestions:

Annelie/Annie

Annabel/Annie

Eva/Evie

Ella/Ellie

Elena/Ellie

Lydia/Lydie

Liliana/Lily

Violet/Lettie/Vivi

Hope this helps!

Hi Ladies! Thank you all SO MUCH for your honesty and opinions!! You have given me some great feedback and wonderful suggestions...many of you totally clarified what I was feeling on "Amaris" and "Shylah" seeming too "out there", trendy or made up when compared to Madeline...and there's a great reason for that...it's because my husband picked and likes those two names the best, LOL!

So, I have lots to think about and will post a poll soon when I get it narrowed down...can't wait! Thanks again so so much!!

Baylorbrooke~ can you tell me what you meant by Juliette seeming forced? Like the spelling or just using the name in general? DH and I are in limbo, he likes Juliette/Juliet better, and I think I'm leaning towards Julianne....just because I'm scared she will be teased about Romeo her whole life, LOL!

oh sure, I was not trying to be cyrptic :) I really do like "Juli" type names, Julia/Julianne/Julianna have been some of my favs for a long time. I just love the nn Jules. In my opinion, Juliette is a little to frilly and I have a hard time picturing the name on an adult. I agree that Romeo and Juliet jokes will be bad - I read this play SEVEN times during my educational career. (My dad was in the Air Force, so there was lots of moving). What I was trying to convey with the word forced is that it looks like you are trying to jazz up a "Juli" too much. If you do go with this name, then I like the Juliet spelling. In the end, I am with you and think that Julianne is the way to go. I am eager to see the poll!

Brooke~ thanks! I figured that was what you meant...I wanted to make sure as I need extra ammo to win him over to Julianne. Jules is my nn of choice too!

Still compiling and whittling!
