Wow, amazing. I agree with you that some people out there have problems getting pregnant and such and people like the one you described have healthy babies. I had 1 miscarriage in between my 2 boys and it's still something that crosses my mind for when we start trying to conceive again. I think it'd be a miracle if the baby is healthy and there are no problems. I do hope for all the best for the little one!
I am sorry, but I am one of those people who just cannot fathom a woman being pregnant for 9 months and NOT know it! Between the weight gain, fetal movements, there has to some clue, doesn't there??? I'm a thinner person, and you can TELL that I have a baby in my tummy--as my 4 year old says, "Mommy, it looks like you have a ball in your tummy!"
Of course, I said this once during a conversation and there was a woman there who tried to prove me wrong. She said it happened to her oldest daughter. One day her husband finally said to her "look at _____, she is walking around like you do when you are in labor!" This woman had 14 kids of her own and did not pick up on any clues that her own daughter was pregnant (unmarried at a young age) and the daughter tried to claim that she had no clue she was pregnant either.
I don't know whether to be jealous of this woman for having the world's easiest pregnancy or feel sorry for them as they did not technically get to enjoy all the joys of being pregnant!!! I find stories like this totally amazing and just always wonder how they can't know????
You will have to update us on the name they choose! I have had months to think of a name and still can't do it, I can't imagine trying to pick one out of the blue like this. I hope they know how lucky they are to have such a wonderful gift given to them!
Of course, being 8 months pregnant, I might be a little biased but how in the world could someone not know!??!!!?! I just don't understand that in 9 months you don't catch one little itty bitty sign and wonder "could i be pregnant?" and take a test. I mean with the growing belly and the kicking and moving... how in the heck could you not notice?!?! I can understand a few months, but the entire duration?!?!! Crazy.
I've heard of this too.. My FSIL's best friend went through this, when she was 18-19. I've met this woman, and she is really tiny, pretty skinny, but mostly just petite. I guess SIL and her went to the movies, where she felt really bad stomach pains. She went into the bathroom and had the baby right there. They said she had gained a total of 10 pounds during the entire pregnancy. He was healthy and everything, her and the father had both planned on getting married eventually, and it turned out all right. She also had been on birth control too. I cannot imagine tho having stomach problems, going to the bathroom, and then seeing a baby right there! lol granted i havent had kids yet, but it must be a shocking moment.
I think it's different for every woman tho, in terms of carrying. When my mom was pregnant with my youngest sister (around 8-9 months i think), she visited her best friend growing up, who was also around 8-9 months, and ended up delivering, i think, a week after my mom. While my mom was huge, (this is how she tells the story lol) she says that her friend looked at maximum, 4 months pregnant.
What I find interesting is women who give birth in bathrooms don't get epidurals. :-D
It is a wonder to me how you miss a baby kicking. Annelise kicked so hard I saw my stomach move. But I could also see passing some kicking off as gas pains.
Although i can't compare pregnancy pains to other, I have IBS and the pains sometimes are horrible. Before the IBS, i had an ovarian dermoid cyst, which also had horrible pains. There was one time,(after the surgery, purely IBS) where I was lying in the floor, having stomach contractions (i dont know if this can happen other than pregnancy, but that was how my DF described it). DF had given me his finger to bite down on because it hurt so badly. This doesnt happen much, but about once or twice a week my lower stomach wil start cramping or be very sensitive. While I can't compare this to the pregnancy pains, I can tell you that these aren't fun either.
I don't know whether she experienced these pains or not, but if she did, it could have been written off as something completly different. Next time I see FSIL, ill try to ask her more about it, but I believe it really was just a surprise baby.
Have you heard what they decided to name the surprise baby yet??? I have to ask...how is it that someone can have a healthy, 8lb baby and not gain weight?? Was she still able to wear her regular clothes? That is amazing to me, she must have been in great shape like those hollywood types who can look fabulous and pregnant, and look fabulous 6 weeks after giving birth! I am very curious about the name though!!!
All I can say is, "Holy cow!" I've heard of a story like that before - years ago - & was JUST thinking of that the other day because I've been breaking out like crazy (like I do only when I'm pg) & thought to myself that maybe I was one of those freaky women who was pregnant, still got her period, & was pg w/out knowing! Ha-ha! I know I'm not ... or at least I don't THINK I am!!!!!!!
