I love Katie Holmes, not so keen on Tom though! Suri is an interesting name, how do you say it?

According the update on CNN. It's pronounced SIR-ee and means "princess" in Hebrew or "red rose" in Persian. It's pretty, but nmsaa. Also, it's an odd pairing with half-siblings Connor and Isabella.

Hmmm...interesting. My comment here relates to another poster's comments under Rants & Raves. Why didn't they google "suri" before they named their child? Suri may mean "princess" in Hebrew and "red rose" in Persian, but it also is used to describe the hair of certain alpacas. In fact, this is the ONLY way I've ever heard the word used.

I guess Suri isn't as bad as it could be, though. I guess she could be L. Ron or "Psychology is NOT a Science" Cruise. Who knows where celebrities get their ideas? I don't think it's any baby name book I've ever seen, though.

That said, I love Grier Hammond Henchy! Now that's a pretty name. Does anyone else think that it's uber-ironic that these two babies were born on the same day, given the past *tension* between Brooke Shields and Tom Cruise?

it is funny they were born on the same day and yes, Brooke did a much better job choosing a name. Grier Hammond is really nice and Suri sounds silly and like they're trying to be something they're not: globally aware, multicultural, interesting!

I don't think they tried it out with Cruise (if that's the baby's last name). I am struggling over names that sound well with our last name. But I don't think they did. Suri Cruise sounds like Syracuse. Not horrible, but doesn't flow great, either.

I do like Grier.
