Sylvia?

I have been thinking about this name lately. It seems unusual (I don't know any girls named Sylvia), but seems like it would fit well with other more popular names of today, like Olivia and Ava, so it wouldn't sound like I was deliberately picking something weird. I also like the fact that people would know how to pronounce it. What do you think? My main concern is that it sounds like an old lady name, but then again so many popular names today are recycled from my grandparents' generation and I love the femininity of those names!

I think it's a lovely name. I admit it does sound a bit old fashioned, but then so did Hannah when my neighbor named her little girl that about 20 years ago. I think you're right about it fitting with Olivia and Ava. It always makes me think of a ladylike elegant woman.
I say, if you like it and it fits your child, use it.
I love classic, beautiful names - but just can't seem to like Sylvia. I have a beautiful red headed niece named Silvia Catherine (nn SiSi - pronouced Cee-Cee). BIL and SIL live in the middle of the woods in Maine, so the name is appropriate.
My BIL and SIL should actually have planned ahead when they named Silvia. Her little sister is Cecelia (nn Cylia - yes just like little hairs). They are mostly called by their nns. It always seemed to me that they got each other's nns - Silvia is SiSi and Cecelia is Cylia. Is it just me?
