I was thinking (not always a good sign, lol) and how folks get all bent out of shape about AddiSON being "SON" name but no one ever mentions it with Allison. Any thoughts???

Allison isn't technically a "son" name, at least in the way you're implying. Yes, it ends in -son, but it's actually a form of Alice, not a name meaning "the son of ..."
Addison literally means "son of Adam." Madison, Emerson and most other -sons are also masculine "son of so-and-so" names, so many people find their flippant use quite trendy. This is especially true when used for girls -- basically naming your daughter "SON of someone" ... that someone almost never being the actual father's name.
HTH clear up any confusion.

Like the pp said, Allison doesn't actually mean 'son of' anything. Not every name ending in -son does, Jason and Mason being two additional examples.
The thing that raises my eyebrows about "son of ___" names is that although you always see the "You can't name your daughter Jameson; it means 'SON OF James'" argument, I have yet to see anyone post anything along the lines of "You can't name your son Jameson; it means 'son of JAMES' and you just said your husband's name was Brian." It seems very one sided, and it makes it difficult for me to take arguments against girls' usage seriously. Obviously, the meaning isn't that important.
