Thoughts on boys name...

What do you think of Sutton John? My maiden name is Sutton and John is my father in laws name, my grandfathers name, my uncle that married us is name and our favorite place we went to on our honeymoon was St. John Island.
My last name is long though VanHoutan (pronounced How-ton).
Thanks for the feedback! I would like to find out what complete strangers think because of course both of our families love it... I'm just not sure about Sutton, and John is so generic. I'm due 7/23

I really like the idea of Sutton John or John Sutton (love the sentiment!) but I don't love the flow with your last name. SutTON VanHouTAN is very repetitive at the end. I can't say absolutely don't use it because family names are so important to me and I love to see them used. What about using Sutton as the mn? Are there any other names that you and DH agree on?

Thanks belle_petite for the siggy!
That's what I thought about the SutTON VanHouTAN... we also like Hunter Todd (Todd is my husband's name)... but I really wanted to honor my father (that is why we like Sutton... his name is Terry Lee- don't like either of those names).
Do you think Sutton VanHoutan is just too much of a mouth full?
Sutton VanHoutan is a bit of a mouthful, but I really like the name and the significance is great. John Sutton is less of a mouthful...
Hunter is a cute name and it flows well with your last name, sadly Hunter Sutton VanHoutan is quite a mouthful...
I guess I am not a ton of help - sorry:)
I LOVE Sutton- I find it so classy, strong, and interesting. Knowing that it is your maiden name makes me love it even more. What a stunning, perfect choice for you!

ETA just read the past posts and I don't find it a mouthful with your last name at all and Hunter doesn't even begin to compare!

LOVE it!
You are so lucky to have a maiden name that works like that!
You could always use John Sutton and then just call him Sutton....

I think Sutton would flow better as the middle name, but I don't think it's really all that much of a mouthful. It really sounds quite posh! If you aren't too keen on John, though, you could use a different form of that same name: Ivan, Ian/Iain, Eoin, Johann, Johannes...or the extended full name of Jonathan. Behind the Name has a lot of options:

Good luck!
Just thought of something else! Please PLEASE don't use Hunter Todd! I adore Todd, and Hunter isn't horrible, though it really isn't my style, but I would definitely cringe to see them together. Tod is another word for a fox, so together, it seems rather like an English sporting reference. LOL.

As I'm saying it to myself over and over, it's really not bad if you don't place any extra emphasis on the last syllables. If you pronounce it more like SU-tton VanHOUtan, it sounds quite nice. Hunter is just not in the same league as Sutton, IMO. Sutton is too great of a maiden name to not use, and I agree about your dad's first and middle names. I say go for it. Sutton John VanHoutan is very handsome!

Thanks belle_petite for the siggy!
John Sutton also works, but Sutton is cool.
Good luck!
