I have a tough time thinking of it as a girl's name. Where we live in the Midwest, Emerson is strictly a boys name. As a matter of fact, it's my son's mn. With that said, there are a lot of masculine names that are going feminine. You might want to consider a more feminine spelling of the name if you want to use it. I've seen both Emersin and Emersyn for a feminine spelling.
I think NO name is strictly a boy or girls name anymore! Emerson sounds lovely for a girl or a boy, I would prefer it on a girl though. Emery is a pretty girls name, too. If you and DH love it, thats all that matters! Think about in years to come, nobody is going to care what there name is, they will have established it as there identity and nobody is going to think "Oh, why did they name there daughter Emerson, it sounds like a boys name." KWIM? I think it's a lovely choice.

I think Emerson's on its way to becoming as popular as Madison.

"I think NO name is strictly a boy or girls name anymore!"
So, your sons will be named from a list that included Heidi, Amber, Giselle and Tyra then right?
