My husband and I love it, but we're getting such a mixed reaction.

This is why I do not like to post my opinion here.

You do not have to be a baby naming nazi. Seriously, it is a NAME. Did I say "Name your daughter Todd!" No, I didn't. I just told her that Emerson is FINE for a girl, especially since Emery is a girls name. Maybe I should have changed my words... Most boy/girl names aren't strictly for just boys or girls anymore. Do I ever think Franklin will be a girls name? No, I don't. Naming a girl Emerson is totally different from naming a boy Giselle. I think you need to take a big, deep breath and calm down. IT IS ALRIGHT.

I have to admit that I found it amusing that you commented here that there are no names just for boys anymore and then commented on another post that you met a girl named Michael and thought that was weird. I mean, there's female Michal in the Bible, so I fail to see why that's bad and the "son" ending is fair game...

OKAY. Let me put it in different terms for you folks, since apparently what I said makes NO sense at all right??

For one, her and her husband love the name and most people are not going to over analyze the name like is done here when someone asks for an opinion. It's really simple, either you LIKE it or you DONT.

By saying "No name is strictly a boys or girls name"
I was not saying traditional names. There are some names that will always just be girls names or boys names. Some names can be UNISEX and I do not know why that makes people so mad. Emerson is a name that is acceptable IMO for a girl or a boy. Other girls names have -son on the end, and that doesn't make them sound manly TO ME. Would I think traditional boys names sound good as girls names? No, but the ones that sound more feminine, I think are fine if chosen to be used as a girls name.

How do you feel about Stacy being used as a boy name? To me, and to most people that is a girls names but it didn't start off as a girls name.

There are no "rules" to naming, and honestly, I cannot stand coming to this board but I happen to like baby names and helping people out. I feel like my opinion is that of a "normal" person, not someone who goes to babynames.com everyday to look up the latest baby names and discuss whether they like them or not. Not everyone does that, but *some* of you do.

I don't care. It is just a name and it is just my opinion. I did not know posting my opinion on THAT particular name would cause such an issue.

So take a deep breath everyone, IT IS JUST A NAME.

Well I like the name a lot - it definitely can go both ways/ I don't know anyone with the name other than the Desperate Housewives daughter is named Emerson. But since you asked about the sp, I might go with Emersyn - just a cute way to spell, I like Emmy as a nn.
