I'm not upset, I'm amused. If anyone sounds upset at the moment...I'd say it's the person who says they can't stand coming to this board.
I think it's unfortunate that people don't analyze names or at least give some thought to the history and meaning behind them. I know that my parents liked the sound of my name, but I really wish somewhere in there was something with family meaning or cultural relevance or something. But there isn't, that's not how my folks work.
And there are lots of "classic" names that you're seeing do the Transgender Tango--they just may not be American classic. Aidan, Tristan, Luka, etc, etc, etc...all have long histories in their homelands, but here we go "oh, that SOUNDS feminine." Immediate responses may not be the best. For instance, I've always though Chlamydia sounds pretty...but on second glance, it's not. It's good to give second glances.
I know a little girl named Emerson Reese. At first I wasn't all that thrilled with it...sounded too masculine for me. But now I couldn't imagine her being called anything else. She is called Emmy as a nickname and is so adorable.
The actress Teri Hatcher's daughter's name is Emerson Rose, and that is honestly the only time I've ever heard it, so I would associate it as a girl's name. And I think Emerson is definitley preferable to Emersyn. The latter seems contrived to me.
I keep thinking, "if Terri Hatcher hadn't named her daughter Emerson, would we be having this conversation?" I can't help but feel like it wouldn't have come into common play if a current star hadn't used it...

I love the name Emerson for a girl!
Not angry, just amused by an emphatic statement that was illogical.
Emerson is a good name for a child, boy or girl.
Linda - wife, mother, grandmum &nb
I love it...and I've only heard it on girls, never on a boy. It would be on my list, but the nn Emmy just does not go with my last name :(
