Any thoughts on Trilby for a girl? It is a popular name from Victorian-era England. I thought it was similar to Shelby, but not trendy or popular. And please, don't comment if you are one of those who is opposed to anything sounding like a surname. I respect your opinion, but know you won't like the name.

Well, I guess Trilby is okey...I wouldnt name my own child by that name, but thats me... What about using Trilby as a middlename? Or, put a middlename on Trilby...

Some suggestions.

Trilby Sophie
Trilby Kiera
Trilby Olivia
Leah Trilby
Emma Trilby
Emmy Trilby
Emily Trilby
Trilby Amriea
Ariel Trilby/Trilby Ariel
Cady Trilby
Trilby Victoria...

Well, its up to you... I would say that the name sounds pretty odd, and doesnt fit a little babygirl... But like, thats my opinion..

Good luck.

I really like this name and think you should definetly go for it! She would be the only Tribly in her class, surrounded by a bunch of Emilys and Madisons. It is original, yet not weirdly so. You could pair it with a more classic mn to make it even out, if you want. I think Trilby Cathryn sounds nice, so does Trilby Marie.

My first thought was "I've read a novel with that name in it" and went hunting through my bookshelves. It's George du Maurier's 'Trilby' where Trilby is the saddest character. She's used by Svengali and is only released from his power when he dies which also causes her death. It's also apparently a type of hat, a town in Australia (Trilby Station) and a town in Florida. I also know it's a victorian, feminine name and really don't mind it as such. I could never use it, my very first association with it (beyond the novel) is of Tribbles. I'm an extreme sci-fi geek, sad to say. I think Trilby's just fine for anyone else, though!

HA! Tribbles are exactly what I thought of when I read the name.

I would never use the name myself, but I suppose it's not that horrible. Shelby is much better though, and isn't trendy that I know of, SSA ranks it as 112 last year.

GL!

The first thing I thought of was the Star Trek "Trouble with Tribbles" episode.

Personally, I prefer Shelby. What about Darcy? Is that along the same line?
