Ok, so as many of you know, we chose to name our 2-month-old Abigail with the less-common nn Aila. Some took a few weeks to warm to the idea, but everyone now agrees that this definitely fits her ... except for my grandmother, who will only call her Abigail (but doesn't usually try to call her Abby, so that's fine with us).
Anyway, Devanie, our 18-month-old, has been calling the baby Aila since before she was born. She can't even SAY Abigail yet, even if she wanted to. LOL This drives my gm absolutely nuts! So today, while we were visiting, she kept trying to coax Devanie to say Abigail. She happily replied with "Aila" every single time. Then she even tried getting her to shorten it to Abby. Devanie refused. Finally, when my gm kept trying to force her to say Abigail/Abby, Devanie started yelling "AILA! AILA!" in the most exasperated voice she could muster. LOL It was actually pretty funny, and quite adorable, and I thought it was great that she was standing up for her baby sister's nn. ;) What a great "big" sister. LOL
Just thought those of you familiar with my kids and their names (or in this case, nns) would appreciate the story. ;)

Thanks so much. ;) Glad you enjoyed the story.
It really was adorably comical watching an 18-month-old insisting on being right about her sister's name (especially when I fully agreed with her LOL). It's amazing how intriguing kids are at different ages. I really can't decide which stage is my favorite, now having a cuddly, snuggly newborn (who's just started smiling and cooing nonstop!), a curious, independent and surprisingly observant 18-month-old (who suddenly knows about a million different words and isn't afraid to use them LOL), and a 5-year-old who's convinced she's on the edge of adulthood. ;)

I feel the same way...I can't wait to have children, mostly because I can't wait to be there every second of the day, as they learn new things and develop new skills. Babysitting is great; it's how I practically put myself through college and law school. But now that I'm finally done with school and I have my first real job, all I can think about is getting married and having (and adopting) babies. I think that every stage has its fun parts, and I just can't wait to experience all of them.
And I seriously hope that I raise girls who stand up for themselves and their sisters like your girls do. That will serve them well in the future! And it may cause you a few headaches, too, but hey, I bet you laugh about it later!
I love that you call her Aila instead of Abby. I love the name Abigale but not a fan of Abby, I went to school with 4. It is so common here. I love that Devanie stood up for her baby sisters NN.

Thanks. I just read the responses to the nns for Abigail post as well. ;)
It's funny, but Jason (dh) was a little worried more people would think it was too unusual of a nn for Abigail, but most people actually really seem to like it. It definitely fits her as well, because even at two months she just seems so pretty and feminine (the head full of curls helps LOL), she's just very much an Aila. I actually can't see calling her Abby ... it's just not her, KWIM? I was happy to see that Devanie agreed. LOL
