Is this too cruel for a son?

We are thinking of Harrison James for a boy. We like the multi-syllable first name since our last name is one. But if any of you are Harry Potter fans, you know that Harry's name is Harry James Potter. Would this be too traumatic for a little boy to be known as Harry James as well, especially since the books are so popular?

I think it would be ok. By the time he gets old enough to be teased, Harry Potter may well be a fad of the past. I think the name Harrison James is perfect-adorable for a little boy, and masculine for an adult. Good choice!

No! That isn't cruel... Most people won't even think of that, and when you read the books with your son, he'll probably think that is REALLY cool (and so will his friends)! Now, if you named him Dudley or Draco he might get some flack. :)

I think Harrison James is a wonderful name. I also like Harris.

Good luck to you!

There are far more cruel ideas!! lol, I think Harrison James is a great name, and I agree w/pp--that by the time he is old enough to read the books, they may well be a thing of the past....

Well, best wishes to you!

I am a fan of Harry Potter books and I wouldn't even have batted an eye if you introduced your son as Harry, Harry James or Harrison. I think they're all lovely names and no one will associate it with Harry Potter necessarily, and even if they do, as the PP said, that's not something kids'll cruelly make fun of someone for... Just wondering, are you saying you'll be calling him "Harry James" as a nickname? Not just Harry?

I was thinking the exact same thing. When you use James it will probably be with Harrison, not Harry. I think that Harrison James is nice and isn't cruel at all.

Before I read your message - I thought your last name was Potter. But no, I don't think Harrison James is a big deal at all - very nice.

I don't know about the Harry James thing & Harry Potter & how kids would react but I do know that I like the name Harrison, not Harry as a nn. I think if you called him Harrison there would be no problem w/ his peers. Harry Potter is quite popular anyway so even calling Him Harry might not be bad. Other kids might think it's pretty cool!

I really like the name. I don't think many people will even think of Harry Potter. My dd age 7 is named Emily Elizabeth like the girl in Clifford and the Big Red Dog. I didn't name her after the book, but the middle name was after my best friend. She has never been teased. Plus when I saw Harry James I thought of the big band leader. I think that was his name.

I don't think it would be an issue when your child is old enough to be teased.

I don't think it would be a problem, esp because he wouldn't go by Harry James, just Harry, so while a few people may make the connection, I really don't think most would, first, you'd have to connect his nn to his mn, AND know Harry Potter's mn, so I think it's a perfectly fine choice
