Is this too "Gilmore Girls"?

First of all, I would just like to say it is nice to be back on this board. I decided I needed a little break from the baby name game and have come back refreshed.

My question is this. As most of you know, our top girl's name has always been Lorelei. DH is still holding onto the name Emily, though. WDYT of Lorelei Emily Thomas? Is this too much of a reference to the "Gilmore Girls" (which we are definitely not going for). I think the grandmother's name on that show is Emily and, of course, the mom's name is Lorelei. Would most people get this connection or even care? Lastly, would Lorelei Emma Thomas sound better? Emaline is a family name, and I kind of liked the idea of shortening it to Emma.

Your thoughts?

Not everyone watches the show so I don't think many people will think Gilmore Girls. And if they do who cares. If you like the name use it. Plus most people will never know her mn. Birth announcements will be one of the only times her full name will be used. The other times will be at her high school graduation and thats only if she wants it used, and when she gets married. There may be a few other times but probably not many. I use my childrens mn pretty often but thats because when they are in trouble I call them by their full names. LOL

Use the name if you like it! I don't really watch the show so Lorelei makes me think of Marilyn Monroe's character in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Seriously, there aren't that many famous Loreleis so the name really is pretty free of specific associations.

As for your Glimore Girls fear, even if people do immediately think of that show, it shouldn't be a problem for your daughter. One, when she's a young child neither she nor her peers will be watching the show. Two, when she is old enough to watch it, it probably won't be on anymore. Three, it's not such a cultural phenomenon that it will have enduring connotations for those who have seen it. It's not like you want to name your child Lucy Ethel!

I like Lorelei Emily or Lorelei Emmaline better than Lorelei Emma, which sounds a little awkward to my ear.

It's funny you mention this...we are having daughter #2 in April and I love the name Rory! However, it is because I watch the show. I hear this is how many people name their children, by what's popular or what they like at the time they're pregnant. It just so happens, you may nto watch the show that much, but you love the name Lorelei. I don't think it's a big deal, even if people ask if that's where you got it.
