What do you think of the name Alison Dickinson?

Is the double "son" at the end of each name a bit much?

Thanks for any/all opinions.

Actually it doesn't bother me that much that both names end in "son" - here's why. When I say the name Alison, I say it like "al-uh-sin" with a short I sound (sin). When I say Dickinson, I say it "dick-in-sun" with a short U sound (sun). So actually when I say it aloud, the "son" parts don't sound exactly the same.

The thing that DOES bother me is the sort of sing songy rhythm of the name. AL-i-son DICK-in-son, with emphasis on the first syllable, a similar sound.

That said, it's really not that bad. Do you love the name Alison? Maybe you could go with a similar name that has a different sound and rhythm.

Alice Dickinson?
Alyssa Dickinson?
Alisa (pronounced a-LEE-sa) Dickinson?
Alexa/ndra Dickinson?

Just some ideas. But Alison's a pretty name, if you love it, use it. It's not like your child is going to be Ben Dover or Brock Lee. :)

I'm an Alison, so obviously I applaud your good taste. LOL

I hate to say it, but I wouldn't use Alison with the last name Dickinson.

Yes, I think it's too much. Allison is my favorite name and I couldn't use it either. We have a "son" in our last name. It's such a bummer!!

It's not awful, but it would make me think twice about using a -son first name with that last name.
