Totally in love with the name Pearl, and I am having a hard time getting my dh on board. Even my sisters think it's way too old fashioned. Opinions any one?

I love Pearl!!

But, to be fair to your husband, it was my great grandmother's name!

It is also the name of a little girl in my neighborhood I see on the playground every once in a while. On her, it sounds very up to date (she comes with a hip, urban mommy.

Oh, and please don't use "Perla" - "La Perla" is the brand name of very expensive lingerie!!

I love Pearl! I'm not sure it's quite right for me, but I like it because it's so classic/feminine but spunky, short and sweet, and very refreshing. More and more "old lady" names are coming back in, and I think you're about 5 years ahead of the times with this name, which is why people are acting a bit reluctant. Especially since it seems like a lot of people who don't follow names are about 5 years behind the times (stuck in the age of Dakota and Mackenzie)! When little Pearl is 6 and everyone else starts naming their kids Pearl, you're going to look like the coolest namer on the block : )

P.S. Someone who used to hang around the boards (I forget her name) has a youngest daughter named Lily Pearl (maybe 3-ish now), who goes by both names. So cute!
