Too similar to friend's son?????

DH and I are really having a difficult time finding a name for our son, who is due in 4 weeks, but last night we came across a name that is really, really growing on us. The name is Kyzer, nn Ky. It just hit me this morning that it is awfully close to my friend's 7 year old son's name, Kyson. They do not call him Ky at all, but we wanted to be somewhat original and now I am not sure how I feel about the name. I know she wouldn't care a bit, but I was curious to get other people's opinions before I even approached her.

Thank you!

Kyzer and Kyson look very similar. I think they sound even more alike when you say them out loud...maybe because when I hear Kyser I think of Kaiser rolls or German Kaisers and it mentally brings the 's' from Kyson back into play for me. I personally would not be comfortable with this if I saw this friend and her son more than once or twice a year.

If they don't use the same nickname, I think it would be okay. Maybe you can spell the name "Kaiser" instead and call him "Kai". Just a suggestion. Congratulations!

These names are not "too similar" for me; but then, I would have no issue with using even the same name as a friend's child, my niece/nephew, cousin, etc., if I truly loved the name. I really like the previous poster's suggestion of Kaiser, by the way ... same pronunciation, same nickname, but to me (just an opinion), Kyzer has that made-up look, whereas Kaiser is rather distinguished-looking. Just a thought ...

I really appreciate your opinions and will definitely talk to DH about the Kaiser spelling, which does separate the name from Kyson that much more. If DH doesn't care for the spelling then I think we might just move on and keep looking, as I don't want to step on any toes or appear like a copy cat. Thanks again for your opinions and I would love to hear from anyone else too.

I agree that the Kaizer spelling would make it less similar but if you want to be original, it's still pretty close to Kyson.
