Okay.
The situation: I have a 3 1/2 y.o. DS named Will (william, nn will). He was our first, and when we were preggo with him, it's not like you heard the name "Will" being called around every store and playground. But apparently we picked the boy's name du jour of 2001 without realizing it -- there are 3-5 year old Will's EVERYWHERE. He's in a preschool class of 12 kids, and there are two. Most everywhere we go with more than a handful of kids, we find at least one other Will. Of course to us our Will is unique, but I really don't want this next baby (e.d.d. 8-29) to see another child with its name everywhere we turn.
So we don't know the gender yet, but we're feeling it's a girl. DH wants to wait to pick out names until the ultrasound, but I can't help thinking about it now. So I ask you all to HELP me figure out if these names I like are getting to be crazy popular.
So...how many kids/babies with these names do you know (or knew preggo parents planning on tagging their lil' bits with these monikers)?
Gals:
Georgia
Zoe
Amelia
Clare/Clara
Adelaide
Vivian
Anya/Aine
Camilla
Eleanor
Guys:
Owen
Emmett
Tucker
Graham
Walker
(I already eliminated Jackson from this list after seeing TWO new moms I know use it in the last year!)
TIA to all -- Alyson

Gals:
Georgia - I know one impending.
Zoe - I know three, one is 6, another is 3, one is due in the next two weeks.
Amelia - none, but am seeing it on a lot of lists these days.
Clare/Clara - two little Claires, no Claras. One is 3 the other is two months old.
Adelaide - none and am just starting to see this bantered about online. I think it's safe for a bit yet.
Vivian - none, but another one I'm seeing online in discussions lots.
Anya/Aine - two. One is 2, the other is 4 months old.
Camilla - none. I love Camilla but am afraid I associate it with Parker-Bowles, and I'm a Yank!
Eleanor - three. one is 5, one is turning 3 shortly.. the other's a two week old.
Guys:
Owen - 5. one is 4, two are 3, one is 18 months and one is three months old.
Emmett - two. one is two, one is 9 months old.
Tucker - I've seen three in recent birth announcements here in Mass. but don't know any personally.
Graham - I know of two, but both are going on three and one is in Australia.
Walker - none.
I hope that helps some!
I know what you mean.. ugh! I live in a super small town, so if there more than 2 in my town... that name is OUT! Usually if I hear of 1, I veto it. Getting pretty hard to come up with some names ya love. The # behind my comment is the number of popularity it was in 2003, according to the Social Security Admin. This is _____ out of 1000. HTH!
Georgia--I personally dont know any little girls with the name Georgia. #374
Zoe--We have a HUGE Zoe/Chloe thing going here. #58
Amelia--Love this one...friend just named her little girl Amelia. #113
Clare/Clara--only know one little girl who is now 17! #644
Adelaide--Not a one. But I am hearing it alot in message boards, polls, etc. **Adelaide was not mentioned on the SSA site.
Vivian--One teacher named Vivian. #223
Anya/Aine--Not sure if I am pronouncing this right. If it is Ann/Anna. So many names contain Ann/Anna that make this one a no for me. #486 (searched Anya)
Camilla--I think this one is coming back up there in popularity. #883
Eleanor--Not Eleanor, but Ellie is VERY popular here. #309
Owen--This one is becoming popular here. #72
Emmett--Know one older gentlemen with this name. #684
Tucker--2 born just recently here. #297
Graham--Grant is popular. I personally dont care for Graham. #397
Walker--Havent heard any yet. #417
Editing to say that I looked up the top 5 names by state and mine didnt list William, but alot of others did. I hadn't heard of the "Will" trend, so interesting that SOOO many states had! LOL I wasnt doubting you, just wondered where I had been hiding to not know about it. It is ADORABLE!
I was worried about the Camilla connotation, too, and I was wondering if anyone would mention it! (My mom AND sister did, and we are not from "across the pond.")
But WOW -- Maybe it makes a difference that I am in Louisiana and you are in Massachusetts...I had NO IDEA those names were THAT big!!
Thanks!
You'll find plenty of Owens (I know a slew of them but it caught on over here first - only 2-3 of them are US babies)
Gals:
Georgia - I know 2 one is 25 the other is 5
Zoe - a pretty big handful of kids, all under 7
Amelia - None, but I love the name
Clare/Clara - 2 Claires, no Clara
Adelaide - None
Vivian - Only a couple of adults
Anya/Aine - None
Camilla - 2, one is 6 the other is a newborn
Eleanor - None, but Ellie is so huge avoid that as a nn. Nora is safer
Guys:
Owen - 2, both under 5
Emmett - None
Tucker - 1, he is 3
Graham - 1 he is 5
Walker - 1 he is 9
I agree withyou on the Will phenomenon, I know about 7 kids under 8 names Will. I think there are a lot of people with William as a family name and see this as a way to use it and avoid the Billy/Bill nn that has been common for so many years.
Gals:
Georgia - 3 all under 5
Zoe - 2 both under 5
Amelia - 2
Clare/Clara - 0
Adelaide - I know one Adelle
Vivian - 3 but all adults
Anya/Aine - 1
Camilla - 1 but adult
Eleanor - 0
Guys:
Owen - 2
Emmett - 0
Tucker - 0
Graham - 0
Walker - 2

my rule of thumb is check the pottery barn kids catalog...if the name is in there, it will become popular! Amelia and Owen are in the current catalog. After seeing that I nixed Owen off my list :)
As a high school teacher, I can't say I've had any students with those names you listed but give them 10 years and i'll have more than my share, i promise you. That's one of the reasons why choosing a name is difficult for me...i don't want to have a classroom full of amelia's only to come home and have my own amelia to deal with!
ivf success :)
