Top boy and girl names - Opinions?

Hi, I'm due a week from today! We are ready and waiting on on our little one to make up his or her mind when to come! We don't know if we are having a boy or girl, as my husband wanted to keep this a surprise.

Right now, our top girl name is Natalie Grace and our top boy name is Nolan Duane. I don't really care for the name Duane, but we wanted the middle name to not just be a random name, but to be something special, and this is my father-in-law's name. I know it would mean a lot to him to have a child named after him. Is that worth going with the name Duane?

I'd really appreciate your feedback on both of these names as I'm starting to feel very nervous about everything! This will be our first baby.

Duane is nms, but I think a family name is sooooo much more special than a random name that has no special signifigance.

I know of quite a few Natalie's here, not so many Nolan's!

I think using family names is nice =)

My sister's name is Natalie Grace. She's always loved her names and gets plenty of compliments on it. I think it's a lovely combination.

I LOVE the name Nolan and it's on my list for a future son. Duane is not a favorite, but I agree that it's more important to honor someone you love than choose a name whose sound you like. If you can't warm up to Duane, perhaps you can use your Father in law's middle name? Or his mother's maiden name? Or some other name that honors him somehow. If nothing else leaps out at you, you could use another D name and explain that you chose a name that starts with D to honor him. It's not quite as obvious, but the intention is still there and I'm sure he'd be thrilled.

Congrats and good luck with your upcoming delivery!

I think it's nice to honor family with middle names, and I actually like Duane a lot.

LOVE Nolan. That's one of my favorites. Natalie is also very pretty.

AJ, enjoying life with C.

Nolan Duane is a great choice, I love family names as mn so I love that idea.

Natalie is also nice, but Grace is a complete filler name. Are there any female family names you could use for her???

A filler name? What does that mean? Grace is a classic, solid name that's been around for ages! Just like Ann, Lynn, and Marie!

I love Natalie and Nolan -- great names! Both are on my short list!

Duane sounds old though...could you do Dane instead? And, if it's a boy, when you announce the baby's name, state... in honor of Duane... we gave the middle name Dane. That way it is SO close but has a much more updated feel.

Nolan Dane -- WDYT??

I agree completely, and I also consider Ann, Marie, and Lynn to be filler mn's! Maybe start a post about it and you will get quite a few responses. These are the names that people use if they can't think of anything else. So, although they *were* gorgeous names, now they are just boring and common. Sorry, I am in a rush so I don't have time to explain it well, but start up a post and you will get lots of opinions.
