Top Girl's Names - opinions please

Hi Everyone,

I would appreciate your thoughts on our top choices for a girl (not pg yet but planning ahead!)

Mary Ellen D.... We would call her Mary Ellen or possibly Mae.

My grandmother was Mary Ellen and she always used both names. I'd love to honor her by using her name. I just hope it's not too "old" sounding...

Evelyn Elizabeth D.... We would call her Evelyn or possibly Eve

It is really important to me to use family names. These are all family names except Evelyn. However, Evelyn is dh's favorite name, so I'm willing to consider it!

Emelia Elizabeth D.... We would call her Emelia or possibly Emmie

Although I don't typically like it when parents choose a spelling that will require the child to correct people constantly, Emelia is a family name (used by three generations) and I don't think it would be "legitimate" for me to change it to Amelia. The Emelia spelling is growing on me, and it's the only spelling dh will consider anyway!

Elizabeth Emelia D.... We would call her Eliza or Liza

My name is also Elizabeth, which is why we would definitely call her Liza if we chose Elizabeth Emelia. My mom's name is Elizabeth too (she goes by Beth), so it's kind of a tradition - but it can get confusing. Would you find it strange to meet an Elizabeth whose daughter was also Elizabeth but called Liza?

Which combo do you like best?

Which would make a good sister set? I'm worried about putting Mary Ellen with Emelia because we could potentially call them both ME for Mary Ellen and Emmie for Emelia. Things like that bother me, although after writing it down it sounds like I might be way over thinking it. ha.

I'll list a few other family names, so please let me know if you prefer a combination not listed.

Anna
Celeste
Katharine
Margaret
Adele
Edith (dh loves this with nn Edie. I like it, but I really like Edwin for a boy. Edith and Edwin might be a bit much in the same family!)

Sorry this is so long. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Elizabeth

I liked several on your list but one really caught my interest! I personally love the name Adele (nn Addy or Addie).
Adele Katharine
Adele Celeste
Adele Elizabeth
Adele Margaret

Emelia Elizabeth is alright except they both start with the same letter but it still sounds good together. My Grandmothers name was Amelia so I like Emelia as well. I'm not a big fan of Mary Ellen. I always think "old" when I hear it. But the good classic names are coming back so you will find that you will get positive feed back on this one. You have some good ones to work with here. Good luck.

I have met a Jessica who goes by Jess and her mom was Jessica, called Jessie. So, not any weirder than a boy named the same as his father. I've also met an Alice called Ally who had a daughter named Alexandria called Ally.

I think Mary Ellen is cute, but I prefer the nn Molly for it.

I am not a huge fan of Evelyn, but I do love Eve, Evie, and Eva.

Emelia Elizabeth nn Emmie is definately cute!

other combos I like:

Anna Katharine nn Anna Kate or Annie
Margaret Celeste nn Maggie
Anna Celeste nn Annie
Katharine Celeste nn Kate, Kat, Katie, or Kitty
Mary Katharine nn Mary Kate
Mary Margaret nn Maggie
Mary Elizabeth nn Mary Beth
Anna Elizabeth nn Anna Beth
Elizabeth Anna nn Ellie Anna, Ellie, Liza, Libby
Emelia Katharine nn Emmie Kate
Anna Evelyn or Eve

I like Mary Ellen the best from your choices. I think it is actually refreshing, as she likely would not have another Mary Ellen in her class. Mary Ellen would stand out nicely among the sea of Emilys and Madisons! It's cute for a little girl and sophisticated for a grown woman. Great name and great namesake!

Although not one of the combos you mentioned, I just love Anna Elizabeth (nickname Anna Beth).

Mary Ellen and Anna Beth as sisters would be absolutely adorable. Plus both Mary Ellen and Anna Elizabeth are sophisticated names for a grown woman.

Good Luck!
