I'd never use it as a given name (and I also have the cocktail waitress association someone else mentioned), but it's fine as a nn for Beatrix, which I do love. :)
I think it is a cute nn for Beatrix, but on its own, it is a bit *too* cute. It doesn't age well. However, I love it on a little girl as a nn for Beatrix.
Dog name! I've known at least three dogs with this name, all of them small, white, puffy varieties. If not a dog name, then a hooker name. And if not a hooker name, then definitely the name of some over-tanned, heavily made-up woman who lives in Scottsdale or Beverly Hills who's had waaaay too much plastic surgery and drinks vodka for breakfast.
When I was a kid, I read a series of books called Trixie Belden (similar to Nancy Drew).
It used to be a common dog's name...but I doubt no young people would make that connection nowadays so the name would work!
I love the names Beatrice and Beatrix, but Trixie is too much a nn to be its own name. Also, I think of a cocktail waitress when I hear Trixie, sorry.
IMO similar names without a negative conotation are:
Poppy
Iris
Violet
Shelby
Edith, nn Edie
I'd never use it as a given name (and I also have the cocktail waitress association someone else mentioned), but it's fine as a nn for Beatrix, which I do love. :)
