Trying to honor my mother

Ok, so I have a dilemma. Well, first of all I am pregnant but don't know if it's a boy or girl yet but I'm working on a strong feeling that it is a girl.

So, anyway, I want to honor my mother with the middle name for a baby girl. I REALLY want to use the name Lydia as a first name, it has been top 1 & 2 on my list for my previous children. My mothers name is Deborah Inez but I don't want to use the name Deborah. I want a mn that honors her with out being too "creative" or obscure.

I thought about trying to combine/scramble some of the letters in "Deborah Inez" but didn't come up with anything I liked. I also am trying to wrap my head around using the name Inez for the obvious significance but have never liked the name. Inez is a derivative of Agnes, which I like even less than Inez. Maybe Lydia Ynez and have the double "Y" in the names?

I just don't know and need some inspiration and help! My mom's maiden name is not usable but her mom's maiden name is Holiday and I thought of 'Holly', but still, I just don't know.

Can you ladies help me brainstorm? Let me know if there is anything else I can clarify and thanks in advance!

Lydia is a very pretty name. It's been one of my favorites for many years.

Lydia Inez sounds fine and I think it would be an easy way to honor your mom. But, here are some other ideas, if you're wanting something different.

Lydia Devin (DE from Deb; IN from Inez)
Lydia Dee
Lydia Denea (Duh-nay - combination of letters from both names)
Lydia Raine (combination of letters)
Lydia Hollis (variation of Holliday)

I love Lydia. It's been a favorite of mine for years. Lydia Inez is gorgeous. It flows perfectly and I love that it honors your mother. I wouldn't change the spelling. The Ynez spelling looks like way too much Y to me when paired with Lydia. Also I think you will run into pronounciation issues with it. If your mother spelled it Ynez, I'd probably overlook the awkwardness of the double Y spelling. But since that's not the case, I would definitely stick with the prettier Inez spelling, since that is how she spells it anyway.

I think Lydia Inez is really very lovely!

I actually like Lydia Inez a LOT. It seems the perfect unexpected mn to compliment Lydia, and I'd probably stick with your mom's spelling rather than changing it to Ynez just for the double Ys (which, to be honest, looks cumbersome and reflective of the current crazy "stick a Y anywhere trend").

Another option might be to use a form of Deborah, since you don't want to use Deborah itself ... and I don't blame you there, because the -a endings in Lydia Deborah are a bit repetitive anyway. I just mentioned this in another post, but I have a cousin named Devri (pron. Dev-ree), which is a form of Deborah. Lydia Devri works, IMO.

You could also use something with a similar meaning. Since Deborah and Melissa are both "bee" related, my first thought was Melisande -- Lydia Melisande is lovely. ;)

I haven't gotten to read through all the other responses yet, so sorry if any of these have been mentioned.

I think Lydia Inez is gorgeous. Great flow, not a filler mn, strong, fitting for today's trends

Ok, so it looks like, of my choices I really should stick with Lydia Inez. I agree that it sounds great, I just have to convince myself that I can like the name Inez. It always seemed so old and frumpy to me growing up.

My mom has been going through some health problems recently and I want her to feel loved and honored by this new baby. My other 2 children's mn are family too but my DS is much more obscure and distant and my DD is from my husband's side of the family. So using my mom's mn is just the level of honor that I want her to feel.

Anyone have any stories of any Inez' that they know that would convince me it's a beautiful name? lol

Thanks for the input ladies!

I love the name Lydia Inez. I don't have a story about Inez. But I do know your Mother is lucky to have a daughter as considerate and loving as you.

Best wishes!

What a tough one. Inez is a nice mn though. I thought about using one of my mom's names, but ran into the same dilemna.

When I honored my Grandmother (Teresa), I used her confirmation name (we're Catholic) of Elisabeth. She had no middle name and had always used her confirmation name as her middle name instead. I also liked the fact that it was a name she herself had chosen. At 91, she was so excited when we called and told her when my daughter was born and that we had used her name, she started calling the whole family:)

Good Luck!
