my husband and i have a 2 yo son named Malakai James. we are expecting a baby in july. we have chosen Canaan Layne for a boy, but never found a girl name. now he has been deployed to iraq and i kinda feel like i am naming this baby myself...i dont want to pik something he won't like. he mentioned kayden or caleb. i dont like either...too trendy. i do however like biblical names that kind of have a modern sound to them (malakai, canaan). unfortunately the girl names in the bible are so plain...rebecca, hannah, mary, elizabeth. so i am desperately searching for a girl name that matches Malakai James. it doesnt have to be biblical...thats just a good way to match them. names i like are:
Devany Layne
Haviland Layne
Meredith Layne
Ellery Layne
Seneca Layne
Aspen Layne
Emmerson layne
suggestions please!!!

That's great that you want to homeschool! You are entirely correct -- not even one of the best teachers in a public school system can give your child the level of personalized attention and care that YOU will be able to. And there are *so* many resources out there that will help you succeed! I would recommend the following books if you can get your hands on any of them: Home Grown Kids by Raymond Moore, Teach Your Own and Learning All The Time by John Holt, The Charlotte Mason Companion by Karen Andreola and Dumbing Us Down by John Taylor Gatto (a former New York State Teacher of the Year who left the public school system because he was "no longer willing to hurt children.")
We have what is known in homeschooling circles as a "relaxed" and eclectic approach. When it comes to "table time," for us that means we focus on the basics (reading, writing, math, Bible, etc.) and then provide the resources and materials needed for the kids to develop their own personal interests the rest of the day. Just as important as "table time," in our home, is character and spiritual development, and life skills development.
A really good place to go and do some reading online is http://www.homeschooloasis.com (go through the Main Lobby, then look at the chart there for topics that interest you. The Article Chart (in the Main Lobby) is *excellent*.

You've gotten some great suggestions for more unusual Biblical names...one other that I think would be really cute with Malakai is Phoebe. Oh...Moriah would also be cute,
These are all Biblical and not so boring and plain:
Lydia Shaye
Mycah Layne- alternate spelling:Mykah
Macaiah Layne
my son was almost Macaiah...but i went with malakai (malachi) instead....Malakai and macaiah are too close i think...but i like it.
i love genesis...i don think daddy is wild about it.
i LOVE micah...micah layne is a very real possibility for boy or girl.
we cant do zo...malakai has a cousin named zoe.
thanks for your input....got my wheels spinnin again!
This is not an actual name from the bible, but Tirzah is a Hebrew word meaning "she is my delight". It's one of my faves :) Hope you find the perfect name soon!
I love the name Berea (Burr-ee-a)!
Kelly Rae - Wife of Benjamin Daniel and lo
thanks for the suggestion...it doesnt really have to be from the bible...hebrew names are some of my favorites....i just cant seem to find one that fits with Layne as a middle name...maybe i should just change the middle name!
what are everyone's thoughts on using a variant of Layne os the mn??
Delaynee
J'Layne
Maclayne
then u could use selah, for example, which when used with Layne sounds like a tongue twister:
Selah Layne vs. Selah Maclayne
thoughts...other variant suggestions??
