Unusual Name

Okay - I would like to try a name out here and see what you think. First of all my daughter who is 7 came home from school with this name, which is one of the reasons why we have hung on to it so long. We don't know if we are having a boy or a girl, but we like this name for both. My husband loves it, I don't know if I have the nerve. My other two children's names are Bailee Rae and Bradyn Jon. Enough stalling - Boston. Yes, like the city, or the tea party, or the red sox. But we live in Oklahoma. Some people love it and some hate it. Is it too much to give to a tiny baby? Let me know your thoughts. Also, if anyone likes it and has any middle names to add, please do. Thanks!

I want to thank everyone so much for their input. I just love the idea of my daughter coming up with the name - just out of the blue. And we would "work" with my son on choosing a middle name. I still don't know what we will do, but this really helps. I like to hear why you don't like the name. Most of the people we have told have really loved the name, those that didn't did give us weird looks, but didn't really tell us what they didn't like about it. I know it is our decision regardless, but I don't want to stick my baby with something just way too out there. Thanks to the last post. Your post gives me a little more courage to go for it. Your regret about your name choice makes me think. By the way, what was it? If you'd like to share anyway. Thanks a bunch!

Hi Just jumping in to give my 2 cents. If the whole family really likes the name go with it don't regret a plain name b/c of what others think. My sister has an unusual name & I have one of the most common names ever. There were 4 of us in my elementary class & I went to a very small school, I hated it growing up just being one of many & you may not have a connection to the city Boston but it still has meaning behind it b/c your daughter picked it. It will always be special my oldest son named his brother & he thinks it is really cool. And you could use something like "B" as a nickname.

First of all, I second the notion that if you really like the name, who cares what others think. We wanted to name our first Zion, chickened out, but named our second boy that and now everyone loves it. Go figure.

As for Boston...it's ok. I went to HS in Oklahoma, and graduated with a girl named Britton...Boston kind of fits with your other names. Actually, I think it works better than living in OK and naming your kid Tulsa!!! Or Stillwater! Or Enid! LOL.

Hey,
I have a Boston in my preschool and we all LOVE him. I personally love the name, I think its cool, I like it way better than Austin.. and I really don't even associate it with the city anymore after knowing him. He has a brother named Paris--that I don't know about for a boy. Boston I do like though. I say go for it, especially for a boy.

It's kind of neat, not usually my thing, but it certainly fits in with your other childrens names!

You might as well use the name Boston. Judging from your other kids' names, this name is perfect for your family. If the baby is a girl you can spell it Bostynn or similar to "make it feminine." It's trendy to use a place name as a first name. I guess Boston is no worse than using Brooklyn or Ireland for a first name. Additionally, you have the celebrity Seal of Coolness in that Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell named their son Boston.
