Unusual Names for boy or girl?

Hi!

I am new here and I have a question about unusual names. I am pregnant with my third child. My older kids are Gabriel and Natali. I would like something a little more unusual for the third one.

For a boy, I think we've decided on Trey. It's not that unusual, but it's very appropriate for a 3rd child. We still need middle names though.

For a girl, we can't seem to agree on any unusual name other than Devi (Goddess in Sanskrit) It just occurred to me that it sounds a lot like Debbie, which isn't unusual at all.

Does anyone have any good uncommon names? Thanks!

I couldn't help but laugh when I read you liked Devi, because that's exactly what our 2nd dd's name gets shortened to a lot (so I am actually familiar with the name/meaning). Her actual name is Devanie, which means dark-haired (sometimes listed as a variant of Devin, meaning poet), and she's recently started referring to herself as Evie (if you want even more options LOL). We were worried about her being called Dev or Devi when we chose the name, for exactly the reason you mentioned ... they sound almost exactly like Deb and Debbie! So I'm glad she now has another nn option, but as far as an occasional shortening goes, I do like the meaning of Devi.

Just a warning on Trey, however. I know you mentioned that you realized it wasn't that unusual, but bear in mind that it's even LESS unusual for a third child. In fact, every Trey I've ever known or heard about have been named that simply because they were the third child, and the parents thought it was "cool and unusual." Obviously not. LOL So if you love the name despite it being more common or predictable than you seem to want, go for it! Just thought you might want a heads up. ;)

Those are some great suggestions! Devanie is a VERY cool name :-)

I will print up a list of suggestions to show DH if anyone else has ideas too, that would be great.

I also like the name Skye and the name Teal, but he doesn't like those.. just wanted to mention.

Thanks for the compliment on Devanie's name as well. ;)

I happen to know about 6 Trey's. I just wanted to let you know that it is an up and coming name, especially if you want something unusual.

Thanks for the suggestions.. Keep em coming, yes DH is a tough critic :-)

I didn't realize that Trey was getting popular! I've never met anyone with that name. I'll have to think of other ones.

I've been toying with Miranda, kind of old fashioned, don't think it's common. The problem I have is that it's 3 syllables and doesn't shorten to something cool/nice. Randa, Mir, Rannie? Since your other two also have 3 syllables, that might be a bit too much?
