I knew a family where several family members shared the name Charlie, there was good Charlie, bad Charlie, and grumpy Charlie :) I am confident that your Kiera will be wonderful and the negative association will deminish. I love Kiera by the way!

That's a tough one. I don't know if I could use a name that I associated with someone who lived so close. The good thing in your case is that there are plenty of other people with that name.

One thing that you could do is Google the names Keira, Kira, Kyra, etc. and check out several of the celebrities or others with that name. It might help get a variety of images in your head rather than associating the name with just the girl up the street.

You could also try picturing your sweet baby and calling her by name.

Or could you come up with a different nn for your little one? Kay, Kara, Kari, Kai (rhymes with sky), etc.

Maybe someone else will be able to offer other suggestions, especially if you tell us what name you're considering.

Hope that helps a bit!

I'd be more concerned with the "two-doors down" thing

to me, that would seem weird, naming your child a name that's already in the neighborhood

I do like it much better than Dorothy though

I do think you can get over the negative association with the name and make your own new good associations once your child is born.

I have "recovered" names I had lost to unpleasant associations, but it took time and distance. Not having to see or talk to those icky people helped me put aside certain memories. I don't know if I could do it if they lived 2 doors down. It's also important to consider that your daughter might hate sharing her name with the icky girl up the street.

Anyway, I think Kira casts a pale shadow next to Dorothy. :)

This is such a coincidence! I want to name our baby Charlie if it's a boy because that would be his uncle's nickname, but I went to school with a person named Charlie and he was "icky" too. Haha!

That's funny.
