Hello everyone,

My most favorite girl name of all time is Genevieve however I do not want her to be called Jen or Jenny, I would have named her Jen if thats the name I wanted. I am probably going to pass the name up unless I can come up with a shorter derivative for use in school, etc. Am I making any sense? :)

Eve
Evie
Vivi
Neve
Nevi

Or what will her middle name be. If it also begins with a G, the nickname Gigi is cute.

It's a lovely name, and I like the nicknames Vivi or Evie, however I think this might be one where fighting the natural shortening is going to be a losing cause. I have known quite a few Genevieves and every single one inevitably got called Jen.

Eve and Evie are great. I just wish I could use Genevieve without worrying how people will manlge it :)

Sure you make sense! I don't like Jen or Jenny, either. What about Neve, Vivi, Evie, Eva, Genna, or Gigi?

I like the name Genevieve too but I know what you mean about Jen or Jennie. I also think that Genevieve is such a long name that it is difficult to always call her Genevieve. We found a name that we really love that is shorter. We love Geneva with the nn Neva. It's similar to Genevieve. Is that something that would work for you? The more I hear Geneva the more I like it. Good luck to you!

We have a daughter Gabriella, it just made my husband and I cringe wheh family shortened her name to Gabby when she was born. We told our family that we didn't like it and wanted her to be called Gabriella (now her nn is Ella, which is more suiting). Anyway, what I'm saying is if you always call her Genevieve people will too. All our friends call her Gabriella, and I personally would never shorten someones name without hearing their parents shorten it first. Of course there are people who have called her Gabby then ask if that's what we call her and we just politely say "no". If you love the name Genevieve don't not use it because you're afraid it will be shortened, you can stop that from happening almost everytime while she's little! It's a beautiful name, I hope you stick with it!
