DH won't really entertain the name game right now, since we won't find out if we're having a boy or girl until Thanksgiving anyway. With DS we had a lot of trouble agreeing on girl names, so we were lucky he was a boy! (Although this time I have not even thought of any boy names I like yet this time!). His name is Jaden.

Anyway, 2 girl names I really like are Violet and Merideth. What do you think? DH has said ok to both - he leans toward Violet. Middle name suggestions too, please!

I like both (although I strongly prefer the Meredith spelling). I like Meredith a bit more, simply because of the current popularity of so many floral names -- Lily, Rose and, yes, Violet (the celebrity usage doesn't help). What about Meredith Violet? ;)

Ah - so we run into another problem -Will Meredith be spelling her name for people her whole life? (I prefer the Meredith spelling too, now that you point that out.) I do like Meredith Violet, though! Hadn't thought of that.

Or how about:

Meredith Anne
Meredith Brynn
Meredith Claire
Meredith Elise

Steph
Mommy to Claire Elise

My first name is Meredith and I like it a lot. But it makes me FURIOUS when people misspell it at Merideth. It makes me want to scream -- just sound it out, it's not hard. If you pronounce it correctly, the spelling is obvious. Sorry, didn't mean to rant at you, but this is one of my pet peeves.

I can tell you that if you spell it correctly, she will have to correct people every once in awhile, but the vast majority of people will spell it Meredith. If you spell it Merideth, she'll have to correct people all the time. (And I will have a coronary if I meet her in person some day. )

That was a long way of saying, I like Meredith a lot, assuming you spell it correctly. Otherwise my vote goes to Violet, hands down.

I actually like Violet Meredith or Meredith Violet a lot. Both names are very nice and they seem to work well together. Some other alternatives

Violet/Meredith Camille
Violet/Meredith Giselle
Violet/Meredith Grace
Violet/Meredith Elise
Violet/Meredith Renee
Violet/Meredith Blythe
Violet/Meredith Claire
Violet/Meredith Diane
Violet/Meredith Janelle
Violet/Meredith Shae

Two very pretty names! I can't say I have a preference.

Both are elegant and feminine, not super popular, and old!

For mn, I would first encourage you to consider family names, esp. if your son has a family name.

Secondly, a name of great meaning keeps a mn from seeming like such a filler. Of course, the name Violet has a good meaning anyway, so that leaves flexibility.

Try to avoid running the ending sound of fn into the beginning sound of mn. Varying syllables and vowel sounds also tends to improve flow/appeal.

And finally, I like to go a bit unexpected on the mn, just to spice things up!

Here goes-

Violet Carina "my dear one"

Violet Amity "friend to all"

Violet Amanda "lovable"

Violet Bethany "God's disciple"

Violet Miranda "beautiful and admirable"

Violet Audrey "of noble strength"

Violet Breanna "virtuous woman"

Violet Honor

Violet Erika "strong leader/ruler"

Violet Esther "star"

Violet Arabella "answered prayer"

Violet Antonia "beyond price/invaluable"

Violet Milena "love, warmth, grace"

Violet Cassidy "clever"

Violet Megan "pearl"

Violet Amara "lovely forever"

Violet Rosalind "pretty rose"

Violet Ruth "my friend/companion"

Violet Gabrielle "heroine of God"

Violet Alexandra "man's defender"

Violet Simone "fine listener"

Violet Ingrid "beautiful"

Meredith Allison "noble"

Meredith Lily

Meredith Audrey "noble strength"

Meredith Cora "my heart"

Meredith Arden "burning with enthusiasm"

Meredith Ruby

Meredith Anwen "fairest one"

Meredith Laura "crowned" Laurel "laurel tree" Lauren "town of great beauty because of its laurels"

Meredith Lenore "bright light/brilliant"

Meredith Brinley "princess"

Keep us posted!

I think Merideth is a very pretty name. It's very mature and not too common. I was considering that name at first along with Paige Madison (first and middle) but I decided on another. Well good luck with that!

>>Anyway, 2 girl names I really like are Violet and Merideth. What do you think?<<

Mostly, honestly, I just think you misspelled Meredith. If my choice is between Violet and Merideth, then I choose Violet, even though I don't really like the name that much, and even though I see the word "violent" every time I look at it written on a page (and even though I accidently type Violent every single time I try to type Violet). If, however, my choice is between Meredith and Violent, then Meredith wins, hands-down. I adore the name Meredith; it hovers around my top five favorite names. Great, great name. Mimi and Meri are both quite cute nicknames, too.

I cannot believe I spelled that wrong!! I'm sorry - I'm not usually that person with all the incorrect wording and poor spelling in posts....Right after I hit 'post' I thought, did I spell that right? I totally agree - Meredith, if pronounced correctly will be spelled correctly.

Thank you for all the great suggestions!!

Annie, you took the words right out of my mouth. Merideth is the most common misspelling of Meredith. It's also probably what led a friend of mine to nn me Merry-Death (Oh so pleasant.)

I have also seen it spelled Merrideth, Marydith, Meredyth. All of which are just wrong. The traditional spelling is M-e-r-e-d-i-t-h, just like the college (for those of us from NC), Burgess Meredith, Meredith Baxter, Don Meredith and any other famous Meredith you can think of.

It's a huge pet peeve for me too.

So please anyone thinking of using Meredith, It's a wonderful name and seems to be gaining popularity, but stick to the traditional spelling.

Good luck,
Meredith

I know this may sound bad and I am sorry but I don't like Merideth because of "deth". It reminds me of the word death. Violet is very pretty!

Violet Renae

Violet Elizabeth

Violet Elyse

Violet Marie

Violet Carisse

Violet Genevieve

Violet Louanne

Violet Rae

Violet Heather

Violet Nadine

Good luck!
