Anyone familiar with this one? Just heard it on TV and, quite honestly, I thought "Victoria's" mom had a horrible cold until I saw the name in writing. ;) Guess it's an Italian form of Victoria (which I was surprised to find because my grandmother IS Italian and there are lots of Victorias in her family, but no Vittorias).

Anyway, I know some have been looking for Italian girl names on here (or was that too long ago? I may be losing all track of time LOL), so here ya go. ;)

I agree, Annie. I have always liked Victoria, but none of the nns are appealing and seem to scream 70s/80s to me. Not sure if that was a regional thing, but I knew a lot of Vickys and Toris growing up. None of them went by Victoria, though, and many were actually named the nn as their full name. I do like Victoria, though.

Vittoria isn't quite as nice, but for someone looking for an Italian version I could see the appeal (the "Victoria with a cold" thing would turn me off though). Funny how one letter changes things, isn't it?

I knew a lot of Vickys and Toris growing up also and as you said, quite a few of them were not Victoria. I used to really HATE those nicknames, but time has worn me down to the point where I just generally dislike them. I think at this point, I could actually get away with enforcing a "Victoria only" policy since it's so common for kids not to have a nickname. If I don't get to use the Irish names I have picked out, Victoria is near the top of my list.

Vittoria is the name of a character in Dan Brown's "Angels and Demons" book.

I think it'll gain popularity from people wanting to be "unique".

Foreign names/spellings have a sophistication Americanized names tend to lack, IMO. Vittoria has an elegance that even the very elegant Victoria lacks, IMO. Of course, I think you're dead-on that, here, it would simply be- Don't they not know how to pro./sp. Victoria?

LOL I know the show you are talking about I watched it and thought was like "huh, what?". I think Vittoria is kinda odd and I thinks she going to get "wait say your name again" all the time.
