Liadan lee-a-dann
Girls name,
Aparantly it is the name of a legendary poetess

what do you think? It is an authentic irish name which i thought was both traditional and trendy, as regards the 'n' ending

Was not sure how to pronounce it when I saw it, and assumed it was a name for a boy, but what do I know??

As for the pronounciation, I think it will be a life of everyone staring at it and then saying it wrong anyway. Sorry.

I've always loved the name Liadan (had it on our mn list for the last two girls, but it's just not my husband's favorite of our choices). I've seen the pronunciation as Lee-uh-dan or Lee-uh-dawn (or Lee-dawn). Kind of like two and a half syllables if that makes sense. I don't think you'd have any problems with pronunciation. After all, just looking at the name it looks quite obviously like the name Lia plus the name Dan ... Lia-dan. Close enough. :)

It means gray lady and the story is that Liadan was a nun who fell in love, and because they couldn't be together in a traditional sense, her lover became a monk and the two lived out their lives without ever actually "consummating" their relationship (but in love none-the-less). There are other versions (in one the lover - can't think of his name offhand - goes away on a Pilgramage since they can't be together, and she waits for him every day until his return ... I think in yet another she becomes a nun BECAUSE she doesn't love him as much as he loves her lol). Anyway, I know I've probably butchered the story in my two-sentence retelling, but you get the point. ;)

All in all, I think it's a beautiful name. She would also have the option of using the nn Lia, which is also classy and cute, IMO.

HTH!

I like the story behind the name and I think it is pretty when sounded out. Like another poster, however, I initially assumed it was a boy's name pronounced "Leedan". I do think you will have to remind many people over her lifetime how to spell and pronounce it, and if that doesn't bug you, go for it!

I know a 9-month-old named Liaden (pronounced lee-ay-den), and while I wasn't fond of it at first, it has grown on me a bit. It definitely has a trendy sound with the -aden ending, and if you like it, go for it! Even if people haven't heard of it, it's not that difficult of a name to spell or remember once someone hears it.

Good luck!
