I've been looking into some more girl's names. We haven't changed our mind on Emera but if we were to have a second girl someday I'd like to have some ideas in mind. Do you think any of these sound good with Emera?

Novia (NO-vyah)

Amity

Bryony (BRIE-u-nee)

Briony (BRIE-awn-ee)

Tavia (TAY-vee-ah)

Marley

Astera

Brietta

Terra-

Emera or Quinn edd 7/8/07

I can be blunt since you are my sister. I don't like any of them. :-P

That's fine. Your opinion doesn't matter as we like different styles of names. :)

Novia (NO-vyah)- It bothers me a little b/c it is Spanish for girlfriend

Amity- I like it a lot! Very nice meaning- "friendship".

Bryony (BRIE-u-nee)- I think you'd have major pronunciation issues with this one. The spelling doesn't correspond w/ the sound you're going for (if I'm straight on what you're looking for. BRIE as in the cheese, right?) I would pronounce this similar to Bryan with a y.

Briony (BRIE-awn-ee)- Not my favorite.

Tavia (TAY-vee-ah)- I like it. I've also met a boy Tavis (Tay-vis) and I like that too!

Marley- Only makes me think of Angelina Jolie's adopted daughter (Zahara Marley). I don't like it with your other kids' names.

Astera- I'm assuming this is one of the "star" meaning names? If you're going for that meaning, I'd prefer Stella.

Brietta- Pretty! It looks like you really like this "brie" sound:)

My fave w/ Emera is Amity b/c it has a different ending sound.

I like Brietta and Briony (but I'd probably mispronounce that as Bri-OH-ny if I read it).

My thoughts...

Novia (NO-vyah) - not my fave, but I love Nova!

Amity - eh. I'm not into the virtue names.

Bryony (BRIE-u-nee) - I love this, but I think it's generally pronounced with a long "I" sound, like "eye": Br-eye-uh-nee.

Briony (BRIE-awn-ee) - I prefer the first spelling...

Tavia (TAY-vee-ah) - I just love this for you! I think it goes nicely with Emera without being too matchy, and has a really pleasant sound.

Marley - not my fave, and may not be girly enough with sister Emera.

Astera - this is very pretty, but I feel it may be too similar to Emera... they have the same "era" endings.

Brietta - not my fave. It feels very trendy to me, even though it's probably not too popular.

So, my pick for you would be Tavia, followed by Bryony with the pronunciation I mentioned.

Bryony and Briony are 2 different names, 2 different pronunciations as I've listed. I've got this information from Behind The Name website. None of them are 'the sound you're going for', their pronunciations are true to their spelling. At first I thought both would have the same pronunciation but apparently not. I'm not sure which one I prefer. Right now from my list I think I'm favouring Amity, Astera, and Tavia but that could change tomorrow. ;)

FWIW, assuming you got the pronunciations for Bryony/Briony from BTN, BRIE is br-eye (as a pp so eloquently put it LOL). I know YOU already know that, Terra, but I think a few are just confused. It's the same sound as the "i" in "bite" and "kind," according to their key.

Ps. I replied to your most recent post, so I don't have all the choices below me, but I do like Amity and Bryony/Briony (and as a form of Bryony, Briony CAN be pronounced identically). I like the Briony spelling best -- the double Ys in the first spelling always look off to me -- but I like either pronunciation. Also, do you dislike Verity? Just a thought. ;)
