WDYT of Tyler nn Ty for a girl??

I know it's used mainly as a boy's name but I think it would be kind of cute....esp with Ty as a nickname. It was my husband's suggestion(amazing since he doesn't like different names)and we have been having such a hard time agreeing on anything. My question is...do you think my daughter would end up hating it? I mean is it too boyish?? Thoughts anyone? Thanks so much :)

I'm sorry I don't like it for a girl at all. I also didn't like Taylor for a girl, either, b/c I had originally only seen it as a last name, a store name...and then a boy's name. And THEN a girl's name...I think people would get confused as to whether Tyler is a boy or not.

If you like the nn Ty, how about altering the name a bit to make it seem more feminine?

Maybe Tylana? Tylisa? Not Tylena, though...that's too close to Tylenol, lol. :-)

Best of luck to you!

I understand and agree that Ty is cute - but it's my favorite boys name - if we have another son, he will be Ty Charles - please, please, please don't use it for a girl! I don't like Tyler much, but I believe it's clearly a boys' name too.

So many lovely, different girls' names out there ... I guess I don't understand the trend of giving boys' names to girls. Maybe because I am a mother of three boys - I know that boys with a certain name suffer once it is "feminized." Our society shouldn't be biased that way, but it is.

No offense meant at all - good luck with your search!

I appreciate all of the honest responses but I don't see why some people are "freaking out" about using boy names for girls. I mean Taylor to me was always a boys name but it is used so much for girls now and I think it's cute. Tyler isn't that much different from Taylor. I guess after reading all of the negative and positive reactions I feel like I could name my daughter Tyler or any other boy or unisex name and be comfortable with it. It's all a matter of taste and we are all different thank goodness. Thanks so much for the help!

You bring out an interesting point, about people "freaking out" about using boy names as girl names. I personally never cared for the trend...and the fact that it BECAME a trend makes me dislike it all the more. To me, Taylor is still technically NOT a girl's name...though I can recognize it as such b/c there are SO many little girls with the name. I just typically like the more feminine names for girls...but that's me. While my preference usually goes AGAINST boys as girls names or even unisex names, I can still appreciate certain ones, and can imagine quite spunky, loveable personalities on children with some of these names. :-)

We have a Taylor in the family who is female, and we just recently added Tye (a boy). I think Tyler for a girl is cute, but I personally wouldn't shorten it to Ty as a nickname. Years ago, you didn't see this much gender bending in names, but now, anything goes. I just met someone whose daughter's name is Ryan. I thought that was very clever.

I know a girl named Tylar. Her mom was single, and we teased her often about the dangers of naming your baby, under the influence of drugs, and with no spouse to bring you to reality... :-)

Seriously, it's not bad, but I certainly think of it as a boy name, and I hear it so often I don't even like it for boys anymore.

How about:

Lilah
Kylah
Kylie
Nilah
Tyra

Hey!

I work with a girl named Tyler and while I thought it was weird at first, it has grown on me. She seems to like it and it doesn't even strike me as weird anymore.

The only thing that sucks is that her boyfriend is also named Tyler! Now that alone makes me rethink the boys names as girls names trend. But I think go with what you both like regardless, once everyone meets little Tyler their impressions will change.
