WDYTO Charleigh for a girl?

During my first pregnancy I was sure I was having a girl and I really wanted to name her Charleigh (like Charlie). I had mixed reactions to the name and ended up having a boy so I didn't use it. I'm now on the 3rd pregnancy and am thinking of names for a boy or girl (since I don't know the gender yet) and I still love the name Charleigh. So please give me your honest opinion. Thank you!

I'm mixed on this one, as well. One minute, I like it. The next, I don't. I do like it better for a girl than for a boy, though! Does that help? LOL

Also, I can go for the Charleigh spelling only if Leigh is to honor someone. Otherwise, I think you should save yourself future confusion on spelling.

-Or perhaps you are thinking that spelling -leigh makes it more feminine. To me, it doesn't. The name is still Charlie regardless of how you spell it. I think Charley is the way it's most commonly spelled for a girl.

Anyway, I'd love to know what mn you are considering. For the moment, I'm liking it...and very curious about whether a great mn with it would cause me to LOVE it! Does this help? LOL Take care, Ginger

It doesn't do it for me. I don't know, maybe it seems a little contrived. I do like Carly though.

Good luck to you,

I like it but I think it makes a better nn. Name her Charlotte, Charlene, etc. Remember that your little girl may some day be a stock broker or a lawyer who'd rather have a more mature name. KWIM?

One more thing- I honestly think there are names that fit with sibs better. I noticed that you want a two-syllable name that ends in -n for the boys. Wouldn't you consider doing the same for the girl? There are some great names out there that fit that criteria and would sound great with the boys! There are even some that have a cute, boyish nn similar to Charleigh. Just a thought...

Like- Corrin/Korryn/Corinne(Cori/Cory), Camden/Camryn(Cami), Arden, Ragan, Logan, Teagan, Laken, Larsyn/Larsen, Lauren, Megan(Meggie), Fallon, Ferryn, Caitlyn, Ashlyn, Jaylyn/Jaylen(Jay/Jacey)

Others that fit great with boys- Skylar, Darrien, Jillian, Rhiannon, Avery, Ansley, Linley/Lindsey, Jenna, Savannah

Other pretty formal girl names that have boyish nn- Andrea(Andy), Alexa/Alexandra(Alex), Francesca(Frankie)

I also like the idea of Charlotte w/ nn Charley.

Keep us posted! Ginger

you have two boys, why would you want to use another boys name if you have possibly what will be your only girl.

Charley is a boys name, no matter how you spell it. people apparently use Charlie as a nickname for Charlotte, but to me Charlotte does not match up in style with Dawson and Ethan.

also, the trend of making long-e ending names end in eigh is getting kind of out of hand - Carleigh, Kyleigh, Ashleigh etc. for instance. it's unnecessary letters.

I think if you are drawn to Charlie, you should go with something more feminine like Carly. with a normal spelling.

jmo, good luck

Ginger, thanks for your honest opinion. I love this board for that! I originally wanted to use Jo (after an aunt) as the middle name but I've had a number of people protest that saying that Charleigh or (Charley) Jo sounds too boyish. The other mn I thought of is Anne after my aunt & my kids aunt. Last name is Cilley, pronounced Seally. I thought Charleigh Cilley sounded cute and spelling it with either leigh or ley makes it look femanine in writing to me.

I have also thought of some of the other names you suggested but I was really stuck on Charleigh. Maybe I should stop wasting brain cells on it and wait till I know the gender.

Thanks again for your input!!

Sincerely,

Kim

Charleigh Cilley does have a certain charm to it, doesn't it?

I think the solution may be Charlotte Jo Cilley or Charlotte Anne Cilley, called Charley...

One other thing---had you thought about Joanne or Joanna after both aunts?

I could REALLY go for Charlotte Joanna Cilley, called Charley. In that case, I LOVE the name, the nn, the whole, with the sibs, etc.

As far as wasting brain cells, how can you not think about it? It's all I thought about with both babies! Take care, Ginger
