We Can't Agree...

Here I am, due in less than three months, and we still haven’t picked out a name for my little girl. In fact my husband is so sick of talking about baby names that he refuses to discuss them anymore. It actually doesn’t bother me too much because he was starting to come up with some really strange names…

Here are the names he prefers:
(Just a reminder that our baby is a GIRL)
Joey Alyson (mn is his mom’s name)
Casey Jean (mn is my middle name)
Suki Jean (mn is my middle name)

I think he maybe be secretly hoping for a boy. ;) I really hated Suki at first. It’s a Japanese name after all and we are Japanese but she sure wouldn’t have to worry about having someone else with her name in any of her classes!

Here are the names I prefer:
Amelia ______ (nn Millie)
Kylie _____ (is it too popular?)
Maggie (I really loved this name until I found out my hubby’s Aunt and Uncle have a dog names Maggie. His whole family would associate the name with a dog! Ugh!)
Chloe ______
Zoey _______

I am sure there are more I like but I seem to sour on them quickly, especially if I find out it’s a popular name; I’d prefer something not in the top 50.

Anyway, what do you think of these names? Is Suki too off the wall (hubby is really rooting for it)!? Any other original suggestions appreciated!

What about Jocelyn? It is similar to Joelyn, but much more feminine and then you can still use the nn Joey. It is pronounced "joss-lynn".

Jocelyn Jean?

I like Suki-- a lot! If you wantd, you could try to talk him into naming her Susannah or Susanne and call her Suki (I have a friend named Susannah who goes by "Sukey"--I guess it's the Americanized spelling!). Anyway, I also like th eidea of Alyson Jean. My third fav for you would be Chloe...maybe Chloe Alyson. I wish you luck. In my experience, often if you have a lot of trouble coming up with/deciding on a name for a girl, it often means you're having a boy and vice versa.

Wow, that would really be unfortunate! I have the sonogram picture and they clearly show it’s a girl but I guess that is always a possibility. My husband would be excited, he really was hoping for a boy, but it excited for a girl as well. He says he’ll teach her all about sports and then all the boys will want to date her. :) I think the reason we are having such a hard time is because we have such different taste. Plus, I over think each name until I sour on it. Whoops!

My favorite Japanese name is Sada. I think it is such a beautiful name ... it sounds pretty and looks so feminine when written. And if you wanted to use Jean as a middle name as your husband suggested, it sounds really sweet!

Sada Jean

WDYT??

What about Suki with a longer, more common middle name so that if she doesn't like Suki, she can go by her middle name? I think Suki is very original and cute, and if it reflects your heritage, so much the better.

hello!! well, i dont like suki. apologies to your dh, but i heard it in a song somewhere where they were using it as a term for sex-sukisuki-and i could never hear the name the same way again. casey is OKAY, but its not one of my favorites. you know, what about using a jo name so you could use joey as nn-joelle, jobeth, joanne(my name), johanna, josphine, jocelyn, josie, joleen...my favorite is joelle. or-use jo as the middle name-i know a samantha jo and a bobbie jo-you could always call her jo if you wanted-or your dh could call her joey as his pet name...as far as your list, theyre all right, but they are all on the trendy/popular side-especially amelia. i really like maggie-its too bad that there would be a bad association...my hubby likes the names zoey and chloe too-but to me, those are too cutesy on an adult...what about:
violet
annabelle
arabella
addison
gabriella nn ella
or
angelique?
again you could use jo as the middle name for any of these...good luck!!

I think we have decided to go with a longer name that “Joey” can be used as the nick name. I like Johanna and Joelyn. I really like Joelle, Jolie, and Josie too however, I find it a bit off having the nn be the same number of syllables as the full name. I like Jocely, but it’s a close cousin’s name. I also like Joanna but I guess dh dated a Joanna and now dislikes the name. I am sure there has got to be the prefect Jo____ name out there!!
