We can't find a name!!!!!
| Tue, 06-13-2006 - 8:08pm |
I'm possibly having the baby the day after tomorrow and we can't find a name. We've had several picked and nothing stuck! The latest was Kirby Jon, and we just found out that it's some freakin' video game character that's pink!!! I like older, he likes trendier,...we're just at a loss!
We need some help!
TIA,
Lisa

Hi, Lisa. Yes, Kirby is a little pink bubble-gum-looking character. LOL My dd loves him for some reason. He is kind of cute. ;) Sorry to hear he spoiled the name though!
Just wondering if you'd considered Corbin? Similar sound without the video game reference (that I'm aware of anyway), plus it's an older name with a fresh feel that might also appeal to your dh (even has the "trendy" C/K beginning and -in ending, if you need some help convincing him LOL). Just a thought!
Good luck with the birth ... and finding a name for the little guy before then! ;)

Hello. It can be unnerving, can't it?
First, is this character really popular? I've never heard of him... If you love Kirby, I don't see a huge problem...well, unless Kirby the character gets as big as Barney the Dinosaur... Think of it this way- Have you ever thought of Minnie Mouse when your hear Minnie Driver? Charlotte's Web when you hear the name Charlotte? Probably not.
A few names that seem like Kirby-names to me are-
Murray
Murphy
Tyson
Ramsay
Curry
You could even look for a traditional, more formal name with a trendy nickname. You could refer to him by his whole name, father could affectionately call him by nickname-
Lawrence (Law or Rence)
Barrett, Everett (Rett)
Leverett (Lev or Rett)
Nathaniel (Nate, Nathan, Thane)
Bradshaw (Shaw)
Simon (Si)
Phinnaeus (Finn)
Dominic (Nic)
Daniel (Dane)
Charles (Chas, Chaz, Ches)
William (Liam)
Graham (Gray)
Theodore (Theo, Todd, Tor)
Travis (Trae, Trav)
Victor (Tor)
Jared (Jed)
Richard (Ridge)
Patrick (Pate, Trice)
Abraham (Bram)
Chester (Ches, Chet)
Or vice versa, a trendier name with a traditional nn-
Garrett (Gary)
Edison (Ed, Eddie)
Archer (Arch, Archie)
Jameson (James, Jim, Jes)
Jackson (Jack)
Chancellor (Chance)
Davis (Dave)
Weston (Wes)
Here are a few "compromise" names that seem like they are part-traditional but certainly blend in with the trends-
Spencer
Grant
Beau
Walker
Levi
Worth
Aaron
Bennett
Asher
Leland
Wade
Bradley
Don't panic too much. I've been a collector of baby names most of my life, yet I, of all people, couldn't decide on a name for my daughter. Dh had his own list of favorites and strong opinions as well. She was 48 hours old and nurses were saying, "Uh, you can go home, but you should probably name her first..." Thirty minutes later, we went with a name we'd never even discussed, and within days, it seemed perfect! Best wishes, Ginger
