We don't agree on ANY names ! HELP US !

We thought we had agreed upon a girls name, but then I had a bad realization.

We both liked Brooke (he favors "normal" names, so I have to go with it...LOL), but then I realized it's initials would be B.M. Now he's really displeased I've changed my mind, because he does not care that our kid's initials would mean POOP ! Well I DO !!!

So ANY (really, any !) suggestions for a girls name ? Our last name is one syllable, so I would prefer names that had at least 2 syllables (though if you have a great name with just one, let me know !), and if you have a middle name that works with it, by all means post them both !

Like I said, he prefers traditional names. I'm quite open though. I like ones that aren't common, but aren't so out there that people say, "her name is WHAT ?!?"

Also...we've settled on a boy's name - Reese William (William is for his grandfather, and is a totally big deal to him), so what do you think of it ? We've had nearly 8 months and it took THAT long to agree on just ONE name...I hope, if it's a boy, it doesn't come out and I say..."OMG he doesn't LOOK like a Reese !!!" LOL

Thanks so much for all the help !

I love the name Brooke, or even Brooklyn. The initial thing will rarely if ever come up. Don't forget there will also be a middle initial to break up the BM deal.

I also love Reese, for a boy or girl. Our baby girl due July 23rd was Reese for six months and then now we are doubting it so we are looking at other names. We have a daughter Riley almost a year old and we think maybe Riley and Reese are too cutesy together.

I like both your choices!

Bailey 07/08/97
Riley 07/12/04

I would not worry about the initials. My brother has those initials (with a middle name starting with an N to break it up), and not once did he get teased about it. Plus, she will most probably get married and her last name will be changed anyway. As long as Brooke sounds good with your one syllable last name, I say go for it! What middle name would you use?

Reese William is also nice. I'm sure it'll fit your baby boy just fine!

Congrats!

and baby #2 due 2/18/06!

well, I think there are probably hundreds of people in this country whose first and last initials are BM. don't forget, there would be a middle initial in there to break it up.

however, I think your biggest problem with Brooke - and unfortunately with Reese - is that one-syllable first names rarely sound very good with a one-syllable last name. that is not the case with 2 & 2 or 3 & 3 though. but 1 & 1 is always just so abrupt sounding.

although I admit I don't mind the abruptness near as much for boys. girls names need to have some kind of rhythm to the sound and two one-syllables just don't produce that.

as Brooke is not an overly frilly-type feminine name (in rare cases Brooks can be a name for a boy), here are some girl names and unisex names (which you must like somewhat, because Reese is unisex, although it tilts more heavily to boys)

these are all "known" names, some used rarer than others

Amber, Aubrey, Carina, Chloe, Delaney, Dannah, Erica, Elyse, Heidi, Hilary, Jocelyn, Jillian, Johanna, Jenna, Janna, Kyndle, Kelsey, Kara, Marissa, Mackenzie, Mallory, Molly, Nina, Natasha, Natalie, Noelle (xmas baby?), Paige, Peyton, Piper, Reegan or Raegan, Rayna, Rhiannon, Sabrina, Sienna, Sierra, Samara, Teegan or Taegan, Torri, Tonya, Whitney, Zoe.

I skipped the "B"s - LOL

good luck

In the nine years of her life, nobody has even thought of the poop association with my niece's name!! She is Brooke M. as well. How did you come up with that?!

To alisonc22 - LOL Sorry, it seems silly to some people to even THINK of it, and it took me 6 months to even realize it. It only occured to me because of my line of work - I am a nurse in a long-term care facility, so we deal with a lot of BM :P I wasn't so sure if it was a term people used outside this line of work, so I asked around with mixed response. It seems only the older people use it (or have even HEARD the term), as people my age use ... ahem ... more common terms for that STUFF :) It's been so hard to come up with something DH likes (at ALL, not to mention as much as Brooke), let alone that I like also...that I'm tempted to just use it. As long as we have a nice middle name too, she can always use that if she hates us for her initials (my mom's suggestion, so clever, is she !). Like I said...I feel awful about it on one hand...and totally silly on the other. I am liking so many of the suggestions everyone's posting, though, I'm sure I can find SOMETHING we'll both love (just in case !!).

Thanks !

Not sure if this is your style but if this baby is a girl we are naming her Rorie. They're other spellings; Rory, Rori ect... My DH actually picked it and he sounds alot like your DH/SO. Normal names only! ;)HTH!
