We need Unbiased Reaction to Boy Names

My husband and I continue to struggle between 3 to 6 boy-names. (We are expecting in November.) Any comments/reactions on the below? (Middle names are family-esk.) We are trying to keep the name a secret from friends & family so we need unbiased reactions--no holds bar.

1) Jason Ray (worries--is it too plain? We don't want the nickname of JR).

2) Jeremy Patrick (worries--is it too plain? We don't want the nickname of JR).

3) Quinton James (we love the nickname Quin but worry that the name is too prissy).

They are all good names. I prefer Quin for a boy, but people are starting to use it for girls too.

My favorite of your list is Jason Ray. Just keep calling him Jason and maybe no one with start with JR!

Okay, only my reactions, now, please don't get too hurt.

Jason Ray...........boring. Boys like boyish and common, though, so he may really like it, but no one will ever say, "oh, how cute!"

Quinton James..........I can't stand Quinton. Now, that's me, but it sounds like "squintin'" to me in my Texan speak, and all I see is a little boy who closes up one eye when he talks like Jerry Mather in Leave it to Beaver. Quinn, I do like, but now the girls are taking it, so I wouldn't do it, but again, that's me.

Jeremy Patrick..........I really like this one. Jeremy was always cute, and now that it's not overused anymore, it fits in really well with the Quinns and Tristans, as well as the Johns and Williams at school/park/sports field. I like that it's boy-boy (yep, a few girls have used it, but a few girls have used everything, that doesn't change its boy status unless it becomes a trendy girl name, to me), but still cute. The Patrick in the middle gives it punch........not a "filler" middle name at all. I like this one!

HTH and wasn't too harsh!

I really like Quinton James. I think it has a really nice ring to it and I don't think Quin is Prissy - there is a Quin in my neighborhood and he is a little DEVIL of a boy!! Cute but naughty! LOL!

Hugs,
Vicki

I like all of the names that you chose. I wouldn't worry about what people think as long as you tell them what you wish. I also saw more than JR from Jason Ray. I saw the nn of Jay. From Quinton James I see the nn of Jamen. From Jeremy Patrick I can see the nn of Ramey. If I had to pick which one I really and truly like it would have to be Quinton James.

Okay -- you asked, so I'll give my most HONEST opinion. I don't like Jason Ray. It sounds kind of -- well, Country Music Singer-ish to me. I love Patrick, but I don't care for Jeremy. I honestly don't know why, but I just don't. Quinton James. I think it sounds like he'll get beat up on the playground. Quinton -- and certainly "Quin" -- is very geeky/nerdy and says 'please kick my a$$'. Plus, 'Quin' is so feminine. SORRY! But you did say we could speak freely, right? LOL Those are my true gut reactions though! : )

I actually like Jason Patrick- it just seems to go together. Except that i think maybe there is an actor named Jason Patrick that used to date Julia Roberts?

Good luck!

We are actually planning on having a little "fun" with our family as far as names....just tell them something a little "out there" and just watch their faces as they try to be nice but judgemental anyway... we are thinking "freedom", etc.....then surprise them with the real name when the time comes:)

Hi! I didn't have time to read others, so I may very well repeat. I am all for naming a child after family but also incorporating something unique/individual about their name as well.

Here are the things that jumped out at me-

Jason Ray- Too plain compared to others, and somewhat outdated.

Jeremy Patrick- This one has real possibility. No one will call him JP unless you initiate. You worry that it's plain...and honestly, it is. But I see two ways to really spice it up- nn- Remy or Pate!

Quinton James- NIce combo. I also thought of Quinn as more feminine until I researched it for a friend on the SSA website. Quinn is in the top 300 names for boys. It isn't in the top 1000 for girls. Therefore it is soundly a masculine name at this point. If you're still worried, call him Quint.

I also took the liberty of switching things around a bit- Jameson Ray, as opposed to Jason Ray to spice it up a bit(I LOVE IT!). Jace Patrick, Quinton Patrick, Quinton Ray, Jeremy Quinton.---Let us know if you need more help! Good luck, Ginger
