for the name Schyler (Skylar) our last name is 3 syllables. This will be for a girl btw, and if you can think of anything patriotic that would be great....She'll be arriving between Flag day and Independence Day.
Thank you for your help.

I like Skyler - but think your spelling is a bit masculine. Schyler looks as though its a mispelled version of Schuyler - the typical male spelling.
I think Skyler is very pretty and gives your DD the option of using the nn Skye.
Middle name ideas:
Paige
Renee
Brooke
Kathleen
Nicole
Jane
Michele
Dawn (by the 'dawn's early light' - that's about as patriotic as I could get)
Elise
I have to agree that the Schylar spelling is problematic. I like either Schuyler or Skylar, but Schylar looks like misspelling of one or both.
Here are some patriotic middle names...
Liberty
Free
Justice
Glory/Gloria
Belle (as in the Liberty Bell)
Elizabeth (you could use Libby/Liberty as a nn)
Samantha (as in Uncle Sam)
Prudence (this one is a bit of a stretch, but an important line in the Declaration of Indepence reads: Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.)
Or you could go with the surname of a president:
Carter
Madison
Kennedy
Taylor
Reagan
Or the name of a first lady:
Abigail (Adams)
Louisa Catherine (Adams)
Rosalynn (Carter)
Julia (Grant)
Rachel (Jackson)
Eliza (Johnson)
Jacqueline (Kennedy)
Eleanor (Roosevelt)
Hillary (Clinton)
Laura (Busth)
Grace (Coolidge)
Or the name of a famous American woman:
Clara (Barton - founder of the Red Cross)
Amelia (Earhart)
Molly (Pitcher - worked with the Continental Army during the Revolution)
Elizabeth (Betsy Ross)
Cady (Elizabeth Cady Stanton - suffragist, first pres. Natl. Womens Suffragette Assoc.)
Anne (Annie Sullivan - teacher of Helen Keller)
Laura (Ingalls Wilder, frontier woman, author)
Susan (B. Anthony)
Coretta (Scott King - timely given her recent passing)
Rosa (Parks)
Carrie Lane (Chapman Catt - suffragist)
Fraces (Perkins - first female member of the presidential cabinet)
Madeleine (Albright - first woman US Secretary of State)
Virginia
What about one of these...
Schyler Grace
Schyler Faith
Schyler Hope
Erin
Giselle Kathryn 2.11.04
Tyler Matthew 9.19.06
Sorry to say this but Schyler doesn't pronounce like Skyler,
America?
Glory or Gloria
I don't think there's anythign wrong with your name, however, the others are partially rigth with their objections---. It's not that anything is misspelled, or looks misspelled. The fact is you are requesting that your child's name be MISPRONOUNCED so you can have an alternative spelling. Schyler is pronouced Shy-lar. Sch says SHHH, not SKKK. You can't use that spelling if you want your child's audible name to be "Sklyer". If you use that name, just realize the child's name is Shy-ler, not Skyler.
Other than that, i think the nany had the best suggestions of everybody, and very complete too! good luck!
The name Skyler (any spelling) is really not my style, but thought I'd just mention for the record that everywhere I've seen the name/spelling she has listed - Schyler - it is as the feminine spelling of the Dutch masculine name Schuyler, meaning shelter or sometimes scholar (and is, in fact, pronounced the same). So using the "traditional" spelling Schuyler, as some have suggested, would be reverting to the masculine version, and the form Skyler would simply be a more "Americanized" spelling (which, if she wants to avoid any pronunciation issues, is perfectly fine, but that doesn't mean she should be told that her way is wrong and that she is purposefully forcing a mispronunciation, because that's simply not true ... she's actually using the more traditional, original spelling). Just thought I'd clarify. HTH! :)
