My husband, Kurt, and I just found out yesterday our little surprise is going to be....A BOY!! We are SOOO excited!!

We've decided to name him Kale Brogan. (Kale is Hawaiian and means 'strong/manly' and Brogan is Celtic/Gaelic and means 'strong/sturdy'.) We wanted two names that would convey strength, and I think we found 'em!

Love,

Kami, Kurt and Kale

Kami,
Congratulationson your little boy!!! and I LOVE the name you chose! and the way you will pronounce it very cool! that is definitely ones personal choice --how to pronounce, spell or choose a name regardless of how others feel!
I think that's so neat how you found two names that coincide w/each other meaning the same thing !! :)))
Love your name too..my best friends name is 'Cami'.
good luck and best wishes

Ah I see then, it's not Hawaiian, you're using it as the German pet form of Karl/Charles 'free man' or as they say in feel-good BNB's these days 'manly, strong'.

I'm not sure why your 'know-it-all' posts often come off as so critical of others' and their choices, but I don't necessarily believe we need to preach at one another regarding name choices, etc. We're all here to help each other out, and we shouldn't feel the need to attack, berate or chastise those who want to choose their own paths. I don't find the pronunciation to be offensive. The ORIGIN of the name (as I have looked it up myself since this thread began) is Hawaiian. The origin of Amy (long A-ME) is Latin, but I have a friend who pronounces her daughter's name Amy as Ahh-ME). Accents, and all other forms of personal preference come into play, and I don't think it's wrong to alter a person's name. The name will belong to her son, not to the state of Hawaii.

Just my two cents, of course.

So you, as a non-Hawaiian, don't find someone wantonly butchering the Hawaiian language to suit their purpose offensive.
