Hi Everyone. What do you think of the name Adlin. It's my mom's name spelled backwards. I like it most of the time, but not sure if it works. (kinda sounds like an over the counter medicine)

Just wanted some opinions. THANKS!!!!

Well, I like the idea of encorporating your mother's name in a creative way. However, I think the problem with this particular name is that it SOUNDS like Adeline/Addeline/Adaline/Adalyn/Addalyn/etc. So I think most people will miss the significance and just assume this is one more kre8tiv spelling.

And I have to admit, Adlin does sound sort of like a generic prescription drug. I immediately thought Adderall + Ritalin = Adlin.

I really like the idea of this name, but it just doesn't work for me in practice. Sorry.

You've said Adlin is your mom's name backwards. Is her name Nilda? Or did you mean it's her name rearranged and her name is Linda? Perhaps you can try other rearranged combinations to honor her creatively. My mom's name is Linda and I always thought if I wanted to honor her, I'd use the name Rosalind. It's a beautiful, uncommon name. I also really like the name/nickname Lindy. Another option, which is a little more of a stretch, is to use a -lyn or -line name to honor her: Carolyn, Madeline, etc.

Good luck!

I agree with the pp, I like the IDEA of honoring your mom but Adlin just looks like you were trying to be "different" with Adeline. But what about using Adeline or a variation of it?

Thanks for your replies! I think I'm liking Addalyn, I agree with you both. My mom's name is Nilda...VERY different, and I don't like it, but I would love to honor her in some way.

Thanks again for the advice :)

I think it's kind of cool, especially with the family connection. You might start a trend. :)

I like it, and the Addie nn is cute. It fits right in with Adeline, Adelaide, Adele, and Adelaine that are growing in popularity. I think it is really sweet (and keep in mind that I am usually not one for made up names!)

I LOVE IT!! Only if you keep the Adlin spelling though -- that makes it SO special!!

I like it for a boy or a girl...I assumed it was a spin of Aiden and was thinking boy, but when you mentioned Adalyn I figure you must be having a girl...?

Either way, it's such a sweet tribute -- you HAVE to spell it Adlin!! What a nice daughter you are.

My mom is BEGGING me to use her name Maria...I don't want to at all, but does Airam work? LOL

I don't care for it...but I am not sure if it's just because it's your mother's name spelled backward. I don't get the trend...spelling things backwards. Seems like a forced way to come up with a name to me. So, if you had told me it was a family surname, I may have had a different reaction. So, my opinion is probably kind of weighted for that reason. Either way, I would only use it for a middle name, not a first (it has that surname kind of feel and works so much better in the middle name position). Good luck.

I didn't and wouldn't have thought of that at all if you wouldn't have mentioned it but now that you mention it it does sound a bit like an OTC drug:)
I would like it better maybe spelled differently but then again that defeats the purpose...
