What do you all think of Rayne Maya?

My husband and I have always loved the name Raine for a girl but when I found out I was pregnant we never mentioned it to each other. I liked Maya and Abigail but once I found out I was having a girl those names just weren't quite right. After the ultrasound my husband suggested the name Raine. I said I like the name Maya and those two names seem to fit so well together. I changed the spelling of Raine to Rayne because I just like it better. But is the name too weird? I'm just not sure about it. It's kind of like a hippie name and my brother even said that when we told him we were thinking about that name. haha!

What do you all think?

Rayne isn't my style, and I really dislike the "y" in it. I would definitely keep the spelling Raine. So many parents now are just sticking random "y"s in names- Madyson, Elyzabeth, Lynzey, etc. to make it more 'unqiue', but really, it just looks misspelled and unclassy.

I do like Maya a lot, and prefer the flow of Maya Raine.

Here is some info I found on http://tools.oxygen.com/babynamer/TypeASearch.cfm?Gender=G&Unique=1&TellMeAbout=Raine:

It is a girl's and boy's name

It comes from the Germanic word "raggin" meaning advice

It is unpopular, not in top 1000 (this is a nice plus).

Other people with the name:
Raine Clayboe
Fictional character.
Character in Bijou by David Madden (see list of Characters in Literature of the American South)

Among other similar names, I really like Reina/Raina ("rain-uh") and Rachelle/Rochelle.

Thanks for the link. I liked the spelling "Rayne" because I think of the spelling "Raine" as being the male version of the name. I didn't put the "y" in it to make it more unique, I think the name is already unique enough. I like it spelled as Rhaine too though. The main reason I like the name so much is because it was the only name that my husband suggested. I'd kind of like to go with a name that he really likes not just one that I like.

Thanks for your input.

That's interesting, because the Rayne spelling looks more masculine to me.

I also thought that Rayne seemed more masculine b/c of the 'Ray' part of it being a man's name. Just my 2cents!

I like the suggestions of Maya Raine and Lorraine Maya, nn Raine. Very good options!

For some reason I just hate the name Lorraine. I think of the spelling Raine as the male version because a male singer in a band that I like is named that. But I guess with the "y" it might seem more masculine. Maybe I'll go with Rhaine. I don't know, picking a name is hard! I am torn between the names Maya and Rayne so I'm sure I'll end up with one of those names as the first name and one as the middle. I just can't decide yet.But thanks for all of your suggestions!

Hopefully she'll just look like either a Rayne or a Maya and then it'll be much easier!

BTW, I also thought I'd mention Rhianna and Rhiannon- they seem to be similar in style, and also very pretty!

Rhianna is pretty by Rhiannon reminds me of Fleetwood Mac. I would constantly have the song running through my head if I named my daughter that. haha!

Yes, I've run into a little of that too. Jude (Beatles), Layla (Eric Clapton), and Susannah (oh, Susannah!) all make me think of songs, so I'm not sure about them even though they're on my list!

Jude is a great name. I was actually considering that if I was having a boy.
