I posted this question over on the other naming board, but I thought I'd get some thoughts here as well.

What do you think of the name Seneca?

Regardless of the various associations, I just don't care for this name. I'm not opposed to place names or Roman philosophers' names or etc. in principle - but this name just doesn't work for me. It's something about the sound of it.

I think of it as a man's name but it is very feminine sounding, and with all the boys' names used on girls now, I don't think anyone will think it's weird.

I like the name, but for a girl.

It's not bad, but I do think of "cynical" when I hear it.

Thanks for the responses! And yes, it would be for a girl. I've only gotten a few positive responses, but I guess that's enough to keep it on the list for now!

Thanks!

I've heard the name twice - one is the back-up quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks - I think his last name is Wallace

I heard it one kindergarten girl a few years ago

I do know a woman named Seneca, and it fits her well.

On the other hand, it makes me think apple juice. (Seneca Foods)
