What do you think?

We are due in June w/ baby #3 and don't know what we are having. We have two boys, and we like baseball names. So far we have Henry (Hank) and Ty. We don't really like the new guy names, we want names for old ballplayers who have proven themselves.

Anyway, we are thinking Jackson Thomas (Jack) for a boy and Elizabeth Morgan (Betsy) for a girl. Suggestions, thoughts, ideas? We are always looking for other baseball name ideas!

Thanks!

Jamie

I think Calvin Thomas, nn Cal (for the 2 Ripkens) would be adorable with brothers Ty and Hank! To me, Jackson Thomas is OK but over-used and too popular. With less common choices like Hank and Ty, I'd prefer something a little spunkier that won't have multiples in the same age group (as Jack probably would).

Elizabeth Morgan, nn Betsy is very cute!

Good luck with the new little one!

I'm trying to think back through old baseball players, but I'm mostly remembering nicknames, and I'm guessing you probably don't want to name your son Babe! I like the nod to Reggie and Shoeless Joe with Jackson, but agree with the previous poster that there are a lot of Jacks (though I can understand why--it's a cool name.) I think Elizabeth, called Betsy, is sweet and I'm trying to think along those lines.

Ted (Williams)
Chet (Lemon)
George (Babe Ruth or Sparky Anderson)
Joe (DiMaggio or Jackson)

These past threads might interest you. Both were looking for baseball and/or generally-sports-related names.

Jackson is ok, though seems quite a bit trendier than your other boys' names (Henry especially). The nn Jack fits, though Hank and Jack would likely be too similar for me to use for sibs, personally.

Other boy ideas:

  • Nolan (Ryan)
  • Ryan - same LOL ... though Ty and Ry- aren't ideal
  • Wade (Boggs)
  • Satchel (Paige)
  • Perry, (Gaylord)
  • Ozzie - Osborne Smith or Oscar Charleston ... could also use Oswald
  • Brooks (Calbert Robinson, Jr.)
  • Cal (Ripken) -

Hi there, Jamie. Congrats on #3!

I love Hank & Ty; very cool baseball names! I'm assuming that Jackson is for Reggie Jackson? Great ball player, but Jackson just doesn't seem like a very clear baseball refereance. He'll just fall into the other 10 little Jacksons in his kindergarden class.

Here are some more boy baseball player suggsetions:

Robinson nn Robby

Calvin nn Cal

Ripken nn Rip

Gibson nn Gib (I *love* it!)

Stanley nn Stan

Clemente nn Clem

Michael nn Micky

Dean

Gerhig

Sandy-I actually know a 20 something guy called this after Sandy Koufax, & he's *very* proud of it, LOL.

Satchel nn Satc-Cool!

Nolan

Elizabeth nn Betsy is very sweet for a girl, & it fits in well w/your ds' names. I'm not crazy about Morgan, unless maybe it's a family name.

Hope this helps!

Aw, Betsy is my favorite nn for Elizabeth. I love it! :)

Jack is overrused, IMO, and too close to big brother Hank's name.

Good luck! :)

Jackson Thomas and Elizabeth Morgan are both nice names!

Here are some other ideas:

Boys:
George (Babe Ruth)
Calvin (Cal Ripken, Jr * my personal fave ballplayer!)
Ripken
John (you could still use the nn Jack, but I'm thinking of Johnny Bench)
Brett (George Brett)
Brock (Lou Brock)
Joseph (Joe Dimaggio, Joe Morgan)
Hunter (Catfish Hunter)
William (Willie Mays)
Palmer (Jim Palmer)
Brooks (Brooks Robinson)
Nolan (Nolan Ryan)
Ryan (Nolan Ryan)

Girls:
Ruth (Babe Ruth)
Paige (Satchel Paige)
Reese (PeeWee Reese)
Kirby (Kirby Puckett)
Brooks (Brooks Robinson)
Hanna (Dizzy Dean's real name was Jay Hanna Dean)

I really like Jack! Elizabeth is cute but I like the nn Ellie/Elle or Lily best.

I agree with the others who brought up Calvin nn Cal. That was my first thought. I absolutely love it and it's perfect with Hank and Ty. Love, love, love it!

Jackson is nice, but it's SO popular. And it doesn't scream baseball the way the others do, because of that popularity. Elizabeth nn Betsy is adorable. Elizabeth is a lovely classic and Betsy is so cute and unexpected (rather than Beth, Lizzie, etc). I do like the other suggestions for girl names that go with the baseball theme though, if you are still looking for girl options.

Baseball names for a girl -
Maris;
Ivy or Addison (for a Cub fan);
Ruth;
Connie (Mack);
Christy (Mathewson);
Paige (Satchel Paige);
Bell (Cool Papa Bell);
Reese (Pee Wee Reese).

For a boy - too many great ones to list! I like Nolan, Cal, and Ted.

Good luck!

I have a Toni Gwynn she was born in 2002 when Tony Gwynn retired. DH is a huge Padres fan and begged till she was born. In the delivery room I caved and she went from Angelle Gwynn to Toni Gwynn. She loves that they have stuff with her name on it. Our families flipped out on us and most others either love or hate it. But, she's a Toni and I couldn't see her with any other name. Good luck with your choice.

We also have mns Charles, Elizabeth and a Paige(due in Aug). Before joining the Navy DH was a sports writer I didn't know what I was getting into. They have some really cute suggestions from pps.
