What do you think...

Just wondering what you guys think about 2 names...

For a girl, Jadily (Jade-ih-lee)
For a boy, Kianni (kee-ahn-ee)

For Kianni, my fiance is a teacher, and one of the little ones at his school was Keane, but pronounced as above. We're pretty sure Keane isn't pronounced that way, but if it is, we still loved the sound of it, so went with Kianni instead.

Jadily, we were just talking about a girl, and that's the name that came to us... originaly Sierra Jade. He calls me Jessily, and well, that's how it came about.

For a couple years now we have been talking about Jady and Ki, but now, I mean, neither are names, but we love them. Just not sure what they would think? As they grow up, are they suitable names?

I mean, there's like the "real" name like Jayden and Keiran or something, but Jayden, way to popular and all.

Also, we were thinking like Jadily Rayne Hiatt (last name). But we don't want to go too crazy. Hiatt also not a "name", and it's for John Hiatt, the singer. For Kianni, was Kianni William John.

Last name wise, we REALLY both don't like his last name... Buck. And my last name is not an option (pretty removed from that family). We wanted to change our last name. But I mean, can't suddenly change to Smith or something? I mean, we have no Smith in us. And making one up, well, our "nickname" type thing, or online alias. is WildMoon... but that would be too odd to have that as a last name? Not sure what to do. Go with something in the family tree or something?

But anyway, sorry to ramble!

Other girls names included Savannah and Rhiannon (yeah, the song). But nothing fits like Jady and Ki. Of course, we have 2 girls, gotta find something, obviously.

But anyway...

For a girl, Jadily (Jade-ih-lee)
For a boy, Kianni (kee-ahn-ee)

I'm sorry, but my first thought was that neither of those WERE names. Jadily sounds like an adverb, and a pretty obvious mutation of the overly-popular Jadon (the correct spelling). Trying to tweak a trendy name to make it more "unique" generally doesn't work. If you don't want a popular name, pick a name that's actually unique, KWIM? There are plenty out there, and if you'd like suggestions I know everyone here would be happy to help (especially if you specify that you want real, uncommon names). ;)

Kianni sounds very feminine -- perhaps because it's very close to Kiana. However, my first thought when I saw Keane was to suggest Cian. This is the actual name Keane stems from, and should be pronounced KEE-an (or KEEN, but that being a word I much prefer KEE-an). It's a real name with a proper spelling and pronunciation, but it's not even in the top 1000 baby names, KWIM? Could be a great alternative for you.

As far as Savannah and Rhiannon are concerned, I'm going to assume Savannah is definitely not for you (very popular and trendy ... not uncommon at all), but Rhiannon is a nice choice.

Actually, the names are from 2 years ago, and have never heard Jadon and is not at all a mutation of that.

And, as I assumed, Keane=Kee-an I guess, but they pronounced it Kee-ahn-ee.

But thanks, I guess I was right we should cross 'em out.

Hubby was really set on Jady and Ki :P And Kieran is the only other Ki, I can think of, and it seems to feminine as well. Jaden is much too popular, although I still really like it.

But ah well.

Thanks.

I was referring to what you'd said about Jaden/Jayden (whichever spelling was listed) in the original post. Jadon IS Jaden/Jayden/Jadyn/Jaydyn, etc. ... like Aidan, one of those names that seems to be forever misspelled.

<<>>

I'm not sure if you mean to call him by the nn "kie" (as in a long "i" sound)? If so, this is an actual name all on it's own -- Kai. And Cian, which I already mentioned, can also be Anglicized Kian, if it's the K spelling you want (this would actually be an even closer form than Keane). There's also Kiefer or Kipling, if you just want a Ki- beginning, or you could use a name like Kyle, Kyler, etc. (or even Kyla for a girl, nn Ky/Ki, if you don't mind switching them ). You could also get your Ki nn from the initials -- Killian Isaac, Kane Isaiah or Kenneth Ian, for example. You get the idea. ;)

Ah, thanks. Sorry, am having a cruddy day. :P But Ki like "Key" I guess?

But thanks for the other names. Not pregnant yet even (hopefully by the end of the year), but I like to start thinking ahead of time.

But there are a lot of options out there still. :) Like, I'd like to fit Eva as a middle name.

I'm just frustrated though, what the heck sounds okay with Buck? That in itself is enough for name calling (on of his kids like to call him Mr. Buck-Buck Chicken :P)

Thanks a lot though!

Sorry, but I can't get on board with those names either. Jadily is too made-up, and Kianni sounds very feminine to me.

Since your fiance calls you Jessily (I assume as a variation of Jess/Jessica/Jessie), I think it would be cute if you named a baby girl Jade, Jada, or Sierra Jade and used the nn Jadily. Jadily on its own is too cutesy for an adult, though, IMO.

Like the other poster said, Kianni sounds a lot like Kiana, which makes me think of a girl. Now, Keanu (as in Reeves) is an actual Hawaiian name, so maybe you'd like that?

Other ideas for a girl...
Jorja/Georgia
Dakota
Layla
Jolie
Kiana
Ruby
Emerald, nn Emmy
Rosalie
Lily (although this one is popular)
Skye
Summer
Willow/Willa
Rayna
Kelsey
Kiara
Carys
Joelle
Liaden
Maya
Mia

For a boy...
Keegan
Keith
Kellen
Keenan
Malachi/Malakai, nn Kai (pronounced ky)
Kyler
Tyson
Titus
Ezra

Does anything stand out there?

Ah, "Key" is a different story. There are quite a few other "key" names that might work for you.

Keegan/Keagan
Keenan/Cianan
Kiefer (already mentioned it I think)
Keefe
Keith
Kiernan (you might prefer this to Kieran/Ciaran)
Keanu
Kenley (short e beginning, but combined with the -ey ending the nn Ki/Key works)
Malachy (pron. mal-a-kee, not mal-a-kie)

I'm sure there are plenty more, but you get the point. ;)

Also, I was thinking how Jady is very close to (pretty much a combination of) Judy, Jody and Jane(y), so you might use a variation of one of those to get that nn. Or, since it's basically J.D., you could obviously use a fn/mn combo with those initials -- Jessamine Darla or Jocelyn Danielle, for example.

HTH (and of course you have plenty of time )

Thanks to both :) Now... Keegan, is that male of female? I would think unisex? It keeps making me think of a girl in high school... Teegan (sp?). Indian I think? I'd probably avoid like Kiefer and Keanu, though I do like both. What about Kenley? I see it also for a girl? I do really like it though.

But thanks so much, and also previous poster for that list (sorry, can't get back to it from here :P)

Really appreciate it, and we do agree :) Which is why I came here. Thanks!

I mean, there's always Jadilyn I had seen, but is that too cutsey? Could go by Jade too that way?

Thanks for all the ideas!

Keegan is a male name related to Aidan. It basically comes from MacEgan, a pet form of Aodh, and means "son of the little fire." Teagan is a unisex Irish name meaning "little poet."

<<>>

Jadilyn would definitely be too cutesy for me, but like I said, I wouldn't use a kre8iv form of an already-trendy name if I was going for unique. If you like Jade, name her Jade. If you like Jadon, name her Jadon. If you just want the nn Jady/J.D., a fn/mn combo with those initials probably is your best bet if you're to avoid the trendy Jadon variations, KWIM?

Thanks a lot. Yeah, I just was posting as I saw "Jadilyn" was a *real* name, but I totally agree on the cutsey.

And I was just looking on babynames.com, and turns out "Keani" is a name, but female, and hawaiian. But still... I think pretty much anything in "i" or "y" is more for a nickname, but thanks for all the ideas.

I am planning to stay away from Jadon as much as I like it, simply because I am one of 5 zillion 18/19 yr. old Jessica's out there, and it really sucks. So yeah, that's why I go by Jessily... suits me better. (Jessica Rose... I don't fit Rose either)

And I'd want to avoid stuff like Keanu, because although I like it, I don't even pay attention to the stars, and don't like Keanu Reeves, and I don't want the kid to be having to say no everytime someone says "Oh, like Keanu Reeves".

My younger sister is Jasmine Maria... not common at all, but when they hear it, they always ask about Princess Jasmine in Aladdin, which it's not either.

But anyway, I think I am good for a while, thanks. Just wanted to make sure Jadily and Kianni really were bad ideas.

Now we get to deal with the last name. Summer Buck for example, just won't work. Oi.

Now, if we were around more French it would be Elodie Marguerite probably, but I am the only French one so no.

how about Kioni, (Kee-oh-nee) for a boy (is Hawaiian for John)
i like Jadily, if you both love it, go for it.

you may find you prefer Jadily, as her nn, Jade, is always a great name!

maybe Jade Eileen, nn Jadily..
or how about:
Jadilene, that would be unique, sounds and looks pretty, and could easily grow up with her...and she could still be your Jadily!

(btw the way i'm tending to see/want to say ja-dilly when reading Jadily, not a big issue, but thought i'd share with you)

of course, a complete flip might be a great option:

Kiana, (Kee-onn-ah) or Kalonie, (Kay-lonn-ee) for a girl.

and Jedediah, for a boy, Jed is a great nn! Jedediah has same flow as Jadily, is not at all popular or trendy, yet a classic, and with other similar style names on the rise, he would fit right in.

have fun in your search for hearing your baby's name whispered to your heart...
