What do you think...

Just wondering what you guys think about 2 names...

For a girl, Jadily (Jade-ih-lee)
For a boy, Kianni (kee-ahn-ee)

For Kianni, my fiance is a teacher, and one of the little ones at his school was Keane, but pronounced as above. We're pretty sure Keane isn't pronounced that way, but if it is, we still loved the sound of it, so went with Kianni instead.

Jadily, we were just talking about a girl, and that's the name that came to us... originaly Sierra Jade. He calls me Jessily, and well, that's how it came about.

For a couple years now we have been talking about Jady and Ki, but now, I mean, neither are names, but we love them. Just not sure what they would think? As they grow up, are they suitable names?

I mean, there's like the "real" name like Jayden and Keiran or something, but Jayden, way to popular and all.

Also, we were thinking like Jadily Rayne Hiatt (last name). But we don't want to go too crazy. Hiatt also not a "name", and it's for John Hiatt, the singer. For Kianni, was Kianni William John.

Last name wise, we REALLY both don't like his last name... Buck. And my last name is not an option (pretty removed from that family). We wanted to change our last name. But I mean, can't suddenly change to Smith or something? I mean, we have no Smith in us. And making one up, well, our "nickname" type thing, or online alias. is WildMoon... but that would be too odd to have that as a last name? Not sure what to do. Go with something in the family tree or something?

But anyway, sorry to ramble!

Other girls names included Savannah and Rhiannon (yeah, the song). But nothing fits like Jady and Ki. Of course, we have 2 girls, gotta find something, obviously.

But anyway...

for your last name, since neither like yours, maybe try the thesaurus for wildmoon, and see what you find that you like?

Ah, I forgot to post this properly (preview, then post) so I forgot the other message, but...

Hubby and I printed out all the K names on babynames.com, and now he's stuck on:

Kijana Grace

(Kijana = Kee-ahn-ah - Kiana/Kianna - Kian(n)a is American, Kijana is African, but it's funny because Kiana means "Living with Grace")

Not sure Kijana Grace Buck sounds right, but it's hard to get anything to sound right with it. Can't just switch to a random last name though... Just deal with it?

Other Ks that stayed so far:

Ke(e)gan - Girl
Kieran - Boy
Kenley - Girl
Keani - Girl (this, is just our last little attachment issue :P)

Also had Kaleigh (hubby prefered Kalli), Kiefer (cuz no, not Sutherland... and Keane's friend in school was Kiefer... special memories for him, but also one pain in the bum kid :P), and Keira.

But yeah, Kijana Grace is not final by any means, but does it sound better? Still to childish? I just find the non-Americanized version flows nicer.

I just had wanted to somehow fit Eva somewhere, for my grandmother (the only usable from Doris, Norma, Eva) but not sure I will get it in anywhere. And a boy Norman isn't happening either. Maybe Evan, but I think we're already gonna be putting William or Liam for a boy, hubby's MN, his father's FN... I just want something like that for a girl too. Oh well. THIS IS BY NO MEANS THE FINAL :P

Thanks for all your help guys. We're moving on. :P

Sorry, I am not a fan of madeup names. I find that they are very juvenile and don't age well at all. Just read your last post, and I have to comment that most K names have a really trendy feel right now. Why don't you start a fresh post and give us a naming criteria, and we can suggest some fresh names?

I apologize... but as far as we knew Kianni was not made up. The spelling, anglicized, but we knew a boy named Keane pronounced Kee-ahn-ee. And Kian is also a name. Jadilyn, is also a name we found in a baby book.

But anyway, there's no criteria... but I think we are okay to ourselves right now. Seriously though, K is a letter of the alphabet, why does it have to be a damn trend? Everything is a trend now. I didn't even know Jaden was popular when I thought it would be maybe better fit for age that Jadily(n). But that's hit the fan too.

Lol.

I can't come up with any good boy names especially that I can picture on our kid either. They're either far to used and/or strong religious ties.

But anyway, we're just gonna get a baby book, and go through that.

I mean, I don't want some downright hippie name, but something in that style. Just... well, we're really free-sprited and open minded.... hubby and I have 29 yr. age difference... and from what I get, this isn't the most open minded board, so now I expect EWW and OMG no you can't I'm calling CAS or something.

Anyway, was looking at Weston and Quinn... better than some, Quinn I think is veering more to a girl name now? But none seem to fit?

Seriously, I'd love to have a boy first, but can't find a good name. :P

I don't think the board is closed minded at all, it's just that we hear the same trendy, made up names all the time, and maybe just get tired of writing the same response. I actually like Weston and Quinn a lot. I have met a few male Quinn's, and only knew one girl with the name Quinn, and it was her mn.

I found this site with a list of "hippy" names:
http://www.hippy.com/hippynames.htm

And my faves are:

Boys:

August- nn Gus is pretty cute

Lennon

Quentin- similar to Quinn, but definately masculine and less common (Quinn is listed on the site as well)

Quincy - could use nn Quinn. I think this is really cute

Girls:

Aurora - nn Rory is cute

Celeste- also works really well as a mn, flows with anything (even though I do prefer family names as mn's)

Fern - reminds me of Charlotte's Web

Gia - "gee-uh"

Iris

Marley

Phoebe

Raina- I knew a girl named this who spelt it Reina.

Sage

Talia

Violet

Some of the names on the list are just silly- I mean, who would name their child "Dude" or "Starbright"??? But some are really nice.

I also say Alma on there, which I like, but don't think it is your tastes. However, I was reading the book The Memory Keeper's Daughter (awesome book) and the daughter was named Alba (meaning = "sun"), which I think you might like. I think it's gorgeous and very different anyways.

Some other names you might like:

Boys:

Ashby

Joaquin

Berkley

Leif (pronounced "lafe")

Kai - means "ocean"

Axel - means "peace"

Casimir - means "peace"... I *love* the nn Caz

Charles - very old-fashioned, but means "free" and the nn Chaz is cute

Corliss- means "free"

Girls:

Ebony

Ivy

Ophelia

Astrid

Tatum - means "spirit"

(found these meanings from www.babynames.com)

As for the "K" names, I guess it is just because there are so many popular names that begin with K right now, that they are beginning to lose their appeal, KWIM? The Kayla names are the worst- Kayla, Kaylee, Kyla, Kylee, Kyra, Keira, Kiera, etc. They just all start to sound the same. If you are still looking for a K name, how about Kalman for a boy? The nn Kal is cute, if you are into nn's.

Here is a link to a post a few days ago with a lady who's name style seems to fit the "hippy" style. She got tons of positive feedback, maybe you will see something you like in her lists:
http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-ppbabyname&msg=44225.1&ctx=128

Hopefully you find something you love!

Hmm, you know, I really like Joaquin... Is it not to "trendy" though? I mean, because of Joaquin Phoenix (man, had I had that name, I'd be throwing tantrums the number of times to spell my own name right - although I think it's like the awesomest name ever :P)

But that's a really great list, thanks! I always get so lost in what is the line when looking at hippy name sites. Cuz I mean.. Happy, Freedom, Sunshine, Rainbow, etc... find a name with a similar meaning or something, but oi!

Boys (I know, REALLY picky):

Lennon - That's actually not bad. I wouldn't have thought of that.
Quentin/Quincy - Still prefer Quinn. Keep thinking Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman.... But I doubt, unless a parent comments, that they'd be teased by that?

Girls:

Aurora - nn Rory is cute
Fern - (I keep thinking something is missing... I guess cuz my grandmothers boyfriend is Fernand)
Marley - not too bad either.
Raina - we had Rayne as a middle name... I know, the Y....
Sage

Now Hiatt... That couldn't be a name, could it? First or middle? We really wanted it, but is it too much? Was thinking for a girl, but could be boy.

The thing is, my family is like... well, I've been disowned. But, I'd like to use William as a MN for a boy, as DH's MN and his fathers FN. Said Liam isn't an option though as it's Irish Catholic or something, not Protestant.

But thanks, we shall keep thinking. :)

I like Hiatt a lot for a boy, seems too masculine for a girl. It seems really strong to me.

I wouldn't call Joaquin trendy because I have never met a Joaquin before, so I wouldn't consider it popular at all. It is the name of an actor, which usually signals the start of a trend, but I think you are safe here. It's a great name. You could use nn "keen" (not sure how it would be spelt).

And no, I can't see a Quinn being teased about Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. For one, no kids would have even heard about it, and so, like you said, unless a parent made a comment, it wouldn't come up. Secondly, the name is common enough that it is known as a name, and not only associated with Dr. Quinn Medicine WOman, KWIM?

I like the idea of using William as a mn after DH's mn and his dad's FN. It will give meaning to the name.

Good luck,
-Nikki

Thanks! I figured, that's just the only association with Quinn I had. But I really like it. But see, Quinn William... Quinn would often fall into surname type. William Quinn is better. Is it uncommon now to go by your middle name right off the bat? But most would say, if your going to call him Quinn, use Quinn as FN then.

Anyway, thanks a lot! Thanks for the opinion on Hiatt :)

Are you havin twins a boy and girl. Personnally I love hippy names like Star(girl), and Rocket(boy). Could you imagine having the name Rocket. I think its cool. Or Luna(girl),an Jupiter(boy). They're completely out of the ordinary and not to many people would even think about them names except me of course. I'm naming our soon to be born baby boy Northern Sky. I love the whole hippy them. If I'd been having a girl it'd of been Star Bright or Luna Dawn This is my last baby though I have 2 girls and 1 boy this will make it 2 & 2. Thats enough for me. Theres cool middle names that go with all these names. And they'll thank ya when they get older. Congrats and Good Luck!!!!!!!!

Hmm... Northern Sky is kinda neat. Congrats. I think we've Settled on Rhiannon Jade for now. Still thinking on a boy. Here if we called him Rocket, they'd automatically assume Rocket Richard, the hockey player. (Rocket the nn)

No, we aren't expecting yet. Just expecting to be expecting in the near future. :P I'd love twins boy and girl though. :)
