Do you like it? Do you think boy or girl? Ever heard it used before?

Thanks!

I grew up with a boy named Kinsey and at the time it was very different. He was a very cool little boy and everyone loved his name. I think these days it is getting more popular due to the surge of surnames as first names and I see it as a boy or girl name now. In fact, there is a little girl named Kinsey that lives in my neighborhood. I think cute all the way around! :-)

I generally prefer more classic names, but I like Kinsey. Definately girl.

I'd think "girl" if I heard that name. It's NMS but it's not bad, either ... kind of cute (if you're thinking of using it for a girl!).

Well, it's my maiden name. I actually also had a good friend with the fn Kinsey -- which we always thought was "so cool" LOL -- so if I saw the name I would assume it was a girl, especially with it's obvious similarity to Kenzie and other K names currently popular for little girls.

I think it is ok. Kinsey is a fine name, but I do not think it grows-up well. It sounds like a nn to me, sorry. But if you love the name that is what matters.

Here are some names similar to Kinsey:
Sloan
Sydney
Shelby
Wynne
Tyne
Quinn
Mallory
Marley
Jude

Hadley

It may interest you to know that Alfred Kinsey was an extremely famous biologist who specialized in human sexuality. You should look it up online. Unless you want your child's name met with smirks, I'd avoid it

I went to high school with a girl named Kinsey. Maybe it's because we are the same age, but I think it would grow up with her just fine. And I wouldn't let the sexuality reference hold you back. I think that you can find some minuscule, unfavorable reference to any name if you look hard enough. I would never have known this about Kinsey, and I don't think most other people would either. Even if I did happen to know this reference, I wouldn't relate it to someone with this name, and it would not make me like the name Kinsey any less!

Since someone mentioned the, ahem, Dr. Kinsey, thought I'd let you know from my personal experience that I only heard such comments once or twice (and not in a teasing manner, just someone who made the connection and/or asked if we were related since it was my last name ... we're not, as far as I know LOL). I'm sure some will think of it, especially since the movie of the same name came out, but I don't think it's akin to naming your child, say, Hitler or anything. Heck, Jenna Jameson and Ron Jeremy are two very-commonly-known "adult film" stars, and no one ever snickers at children named Jameson or Jeremy, KWIM? ;)

I like it, because I had a girl in my class when I was a preschool teacher named Kinsey, she had a twin brother named Quinn. I think the name suited her well, and since I have a good association with it I have always liked it.
